FC Broxelona B (Eng)

The 2016 Budapest Fives Plate Final was to be contested by two teams who had grown into this tournament. Today would see both FC Broxelona A and FC Broxelona B pick up medals but who would take the winners medals and the coveted Plate trophy?

With six games down and one to go the teams would need to summon up one last effort to collect those winners medals. The game was a derby match between the two FC Broxelona squads. It is not often teams from the same club meet in eurofootballfives competition but when they do it often has a strange atmosphere – sometimes the games can lack a little intensity or sometimes the games can have a bit too much intensity with players determined not to lose to their tour-mates. This game followed the pattern of the former with it being played in a very relaxed atmosphere.

The first real chance of the game came when Aaron Sunnar broke down the right for the A squad and squared it for Luke Blackwell but the ball was just beyond him and he couldn't turn it home. The next chance also went the way of the A team as a long ball forward found Lewis Frood whose shot was kept out by a mixture of Christopher Doyle in the B team goal and the post. The deadlock was to be broken not long after though when Jason Ayton broke down the right - he was allowed to advance unchallenged until he got in shooting range when he fired in at the near post. FC Broxelona B lead 1-0.

A couple of minutes after the first goal FC Broxelona A were level with a similar chance to the Luke Blackwell one. Aaron Sunnar down the right, centred the ball and James Windley was there to apply the finish for 1-1. The game was then turned on its head as FC Broxelona A broke forward and James Windley thumped the ball home left footed for 2-1 and that's how it stayed at half-time.

Into the second half and the pattern/atmosphere of the game was much the same as the first. FC Broxelona A had much of the early territory and possession but a quick break saw Luke Hoban score for FC Broxelona B and make it 2-2. The game was fairly sedate for a while with both teams relatively content in possession until mid-way through the second half when Bradley Morrison broke down the left, beat his man, supplied the cross for Scott Morgan to finish into the roof of the net at the far post. FC Broxelona B had lead, went behind and now lead again, 3-2.

It looked like time was running out for FC Broxelona A but with just under 90 seconds to go Daniel Turnham made it 3-3. With the game destined for penalties FC Broxelona A swapped their goalkeeper so Jack Wakefield came out on pitch and made an instant impact – he scored the winner in the dying embers of the game. It was another twist in this topsy-turvy game.

Congratulations to all at FC Broxelona who would collect medals but it was the A Team who would collect the winners ones and pick-up the trophy. It was our pleasure to host you all and we look forward to seeing you again next time.
