Up
until last year, the Budapest Fives has been won
by teams from Belarus (2014), England (2011, 2013)
and Romania (2012). There was finally home success
for Hungary when Csabagyongye claimed success
in 2015 and Meglepetes made it two wins in two
years for Hungarian sides as they lifted the trophy
in 2016.
Meglepetes
claimed 6 wins and 1 draw en route to a thoroughly
deserved win that saw them finish on top of all
the statistical tables - top goalscorers, best
defence, best overall goal difference etc, etc.
They also boasted the tournament goalscorer Domonkos
Mauranyi who lead the field with 9 goals on the
day - 4 more than his nearest competitor.
There
was heartbreak for Budapest Celtic who finished
Runners-Up for the third time in six seasons as
they narrowly missed out on the ultimate prize
despite an early goal in the Cup Final and seeing
off 2014 champions CIS Committee in the Semi-Finals.
In
the Plate competition there was also travelling
success for FC Broxelona. It is the first time
we have ever had two teams from the same travelling
group compete in a final and it was the A team
who emerged victorious, 4-3, over their B team.
We'd
like to say a big thank you to all teams who participated
- both the Hungarian teams for their support and
the travelling teams who invested time & money
in making the journey to Budapest for a fantastic
weekend of football and partying in the Hungarian
capital! |
