The
above result meant that we essentially had a
two horse race for 4th position and the final
qualification spot for the Plate. Vilag Valogatott
were currently in pole position occupying 4th
spot with 3 points. They were due to meet Wandsworth
Athletic who could draw level with Vilag Valogatott
should the English team win this fixture. A
defeat for Wandsworth Athletic would confirm
they would not qualify for the knock-out phase.
A draw, whilst not perfect, would give them
a glimmer of hope but they would be relying
on a win in the final round and other results
going their way.
The
early signs did not augur well for Wandsworth
Athletic as they fell behind to a goal from
Ricardo Tesolin. 1-0 became 2-0 for Vilag Valogatott
when Tesolin added his second of the game –
his first goals of the tournament. The half-time
whistle went and things were looking ominous
for Wandsworth Athletic.
There
was renewed hope after the break when Andy Michel
reduced the deficit to 2-1 and they were on
the front foot looking for an equaliser (and
then possibly a winner) to keep them alive in
the tournament. In the last minute they almost
snaffled a leveller as Andy Michel found himself
in a good shooting position only to see Tiago
Hipolito make the save not once but twice as
Michel crashed in the rebound. Time ran out
on Wandsworth Athletic and the game finished
2-1. Another narrow loss by the odd goal.
Vilag
Valogatott had secured a place in the Plate
competition this afternoon.
