So,
with just one more game to go to we would soon
find out who would be declared the winners of
the 2015 Bratislava Fives Cup. We had a great
final in store and a fantastic crowd assembled
by Pitch A to create a superb atmosphere.
In
the blue corner, hailing from Paris and adorned
in the colours of Manchester City we had The A
Team. They were in their second eurofootballfives.com
Cup Final and were Runners-Up in Krakow 2013.
They would aim to lift the coveted trophy here
in Bratislava.
In
the white corner, representing Slovakia we had
GSF Drunkerz who were aiming to turn success in
the 2014 Bratislava Fives Plate into heightened
success with the 2015 Bratislava Fives Cup.
The
two teams had met earlier in the day, in Game
3 of Group B and on that occasion The A Team took
a narrow 2-1 victory. A repeat would do them just
fine with GSF Drunkerz clearly hoping for revenge
and to turn that result on its' head.
The
referee blew for kick-off and the A Team took
an immediate shot – just wide. What a start that
would have been. GSF Drunkerz went up the other
end and hit the side netting – we didn't have
a minute on the clock. If the teams could keep
this up we had a great game in store. The A Team
were cranking up the pressure with goalkeeper
Miroslav Saga making good saves from Fateh Bekhouche
and then Dydynho before Dydynho then hit the side
netting.
GSF
Drunkerz then had a good spell with a shot well
saved for a corner by the French goalkeeper for
a corner. A chance from that corner was also well
saved as GSF Drunkerz racked up a couple more
corners but no clear cut chances. Dydynho almost
opened the scoring at the end of the half but
Saga was equal to the shot and ensured the half-time
score would be 0-0.
The
second half began and GSF Drunkerz tried to beat
the A Team by their own tactic – shooting from
the kick-off. The A Team goalkeeper had to be
alert and the ball was tipped over for a corner.
The A Team then continued to build pressure and
Fateh Bekhouche had a good chance blocked. Fateh
Bekhouche was bidding to become the first player
to win a eurofootballfives.com tournament with
two different teams (he was part of the Grant
Thornton team that won the 2013 Mallorca Fives)
and was playing in his third Cup Final.
Dydynho
then forced Miroslava Saga, who was having another
great tournament, into a flying save. GSF Drunkerz
had a corner from which the ball was flashed wide
before Dydunho struck a well hit shot narrowly
over the bar. There were chances coming at both
ends but The A Team were looking the more likely
to score.
Then,
from a GSF Drunkerz corner an unfortunate deflection
lead to handball in the French penalty area. The
referee awarded the penalty and Martin Volek's
7th goal of the day meant GSF Drunkerz held a
crucial 1-0 advantage.
Straight
up the other end Fateh Bekhouche almost bundled
the ball home but Saga was out to block. The chances
kept coming with Fateh Bekhouche and Dydynho (twice)
peppering the Slovakian goal – but no way through.
Dydynho had a free-kick which went just wide.
Abdel Bekhouche had a free-kick (similar to the
one he scored in the group game) which was blocked
by the wall.
It
was backs to the wall stuff now for GSF Drunkerz
as The A Team lay siege to their opponent's goal.
Dydynho almost forced his way through but Saga
blocked then as he looked to pounce on the rebound
a defender narrowly got their first to concede
a corner. Fateh Bekhouche then flashed wide from
a tight angle before the referee drew time on
proceedings and GSF Drunkerz celebrated a famous
victory.
The
A Team were crestfallen. They had created enough
chances to win 2 or 3 games but they came up against
an inspired defence and goalkeeper. GSF Drunkerz
took their chance when it came and were worthy
winners for such a battling performance.
There
was some individual success for Dydynho who won
his third @eurofootball5's Top Goalscorer award
so many congratulations to him.
Our
winners today and 2015 Bratislava Fives champions
– GSF Drunkerz.
We
send our congratulations to all the teams who
participated in what was a great day's competition.
The tournament had everything and we look forward
to seeing you all again very soon.
