There
were just two more games standing between the
four remaining teams and glory as we reached the
Plate Semi-Finals. It was Holland versus England
in the first Plate Semi-Final as ADP Netherlands
took on Red Cow Belgrade. At stake was a place
in the 2014 Barcelona Fives Plate Final.
ADP
Netherlands had proven tough opposition all day
with 3 wins and 2 draws they were still unbeaten
at this stage. Red Cow Belgrade had a blip in
their second game but had won their four other
matches – both teams were in great form.
ADP
Netherlands had scored 11 goals in the Quarter-Finals
but were finding Dom Leonard and the rest of the
Red Cow Belgrade defence a much tougher nut to
crack. Red Cow Belgrade had kept 3 clean sheets
in their previous 3 games and that record would
now read 4 clean sheets in 4 games. Peter Werff
was as obstinate in the ADP Netherlands goal as
he rebuffed all that Red Cow Belgrade could throw
at him. We ended goalless, 0-0.
We
would need a penalty shoot-out to decide this
tie. It was goalkeepers on top in normal time
but it was certainly the shooting boots of the
outfield players who were on top in the shoot-out.
Daz Bray and Nico Spoel both scored their teams'
opening spot-kicks. Remco Nijland/Tom Goyski,
Jeoren Quispel/Joe Smith and Jan Van Rabenswaaij/Ben
Wooler all kept a perfect record in rounds two,
three and four of the shoot-out.
It
was the fifth round of penalties that would prove
decisive – Joe Howitt scored, Peter Werff thundered
his strike against the crossbar and out. Red Cow
Belgrade were victorious.
It
was farewell to ADP Netherlands who had played
in their third tournament with us in the last
12 months (Barcelona x 2, Amsterdam x 1). We really
appreciate your support of our events and, as
always, was good to see you on tour.
