Group C was due to kick off with Fifty Shades of O Shea versus Luminy Wolves. However, the latter were involved in a car accident on their way from their hometown of Marseille to Barcelona on the eve of the tournament. Despite hospital admission Luminy Wolves say their players are “not too bad” and are out of hospital. Needless to say, they were unable to re-attempt the journey to Barcelona to attend the tournament. We wish all Luminy Wolves a speedy recovery.

That meant one of the teams from Group A (which had been a 6-team group) was picked to replace Luminy Wolves in Group C. That team was Peebles All Stars.

Both Fifty Shades of O Shea and Peebles All Stars were playing their first European fixture and it was the team from Ireland who burst out of the blocks the quicker. Michael McCrea scored the goal that set them on the way.

The first half came to an end with Fifty shades of O Shea retaining that slender 1-0 lead. In the second half they built on that foundation with a brace from Aodhan Burns. There was a consolation for Peebles All Stars from the boot of Paul Scrimger but it was not enough to prevent them taking a 3-1 loss.

In Game 2 of Group C it was The Matt-Adors against another debutant – Prospe FC of Spain.

The Matt-Adors were the sister squad of Notlob FC who we had just seen compete in Group B. So, to recap the intro – this was the groups' 3rd appearance in eurofootballfives competition having previously played as John Barnes FC all the way back in the 2007 Prague Trophy and more recently the 2012 Mallorca Tournament. The Prague Trophy saw them reach a credible Cup Quarter-Final although Mallorca was a bit of write-off due to it being stag weekend the pre-tournament preparations being perfect for a hangover but not sporting success.

That was all history though and it is what happened on the pitch today that would matter most. Prospe FC bagged their debut @eurofootball5 goal in the opening period through David Puyol Izquierdo. It was a goal that would give Prospe FC a half-time lead and would ultimately prove to be the match-winner as the teams finished up 1-0 at full-time.

It was a great start for Prospe FC. Close but no cigar for The Matt-Adors.

The final team to begin their campaign in Group C was Red Cow Belgrade. The English team was making its second appearance of the eurofootballfives.com season. Earlier in the year they played in the 2014 Algarve Open where they slipped to 6th in Group B and were eliminated in this phase of the tournament. They made their debut with us at the 2013 Budapest Fives and finished 4th in their 6-team group – a group that featured both the eventual finalists. They will be hoping to rekindle their Budapest form in Barcelona.

Red Cow Belgrade's opponents would be Fifty Shades of O Shea who came into the game on the back of a morale-boosting 3-1 victory. That morale would be severely tested after the exploits in this fixture though. Red Cow Belgrade started their Barcelona campaign in thunderous style and claimed their biggest ever win on the eurofootballfives.com circuit.

Joe Howitt set them on their way with the opener before going on to complete a hat-trick. There was also a goal for Thomas Goyski and a double for Daz Bray. Red Cow Belgrade had hit their opponents for 6 – which was more goals in the group phase than their previous two campaigns combined. A sensational start.

Fifty Shades of Shea did get on the scoresheet through Patrick Moran but it was to be a mere consolation. They would need to bounce back next time out.

Peebles All Stars were back in action looking to open their account in eurofootballfives.com football. Their opponents were the Matt-Adors who were also looking for their first points of the day after a narrow 1-0 loss to Prospe FC first time out.

It was The Matt-Adors who took the early initiative when Gianluca Petri scored their first goal of the tournament. The Matt-Adors were looking pretty solid at the back and were able to retain the lead into half-time.

The last Scottish team to play in the Barcelona Fives was Red Light Runners who played in the 2008 tournament and they went all the way to the Cup Final. It was a tough act for Peebles All Stars to follow and they needed to turn their fortunes around if they were to emulate their compatriots. The comeback trail started here and now as Ross Pickburn drew Peebles All Stars level.

The game finished 1-1 and both teams claimed their first point of the day. Only time would tell if it was a point gained or two points dropped.

Prospe FC was next up on Pitch C looking for the result that would further advance their tournament challenge. Both they and their opponents, Red Cow Belgrade, were hoping to make it two wins out of two in order to take control of Group C at the midway point.

Red Cow Belgrade had been banging the goals in during their first fixture but they were on the receiving end this time out. Prospe FC raced into a 3-0 lead by half-time with goals from Carlos Perez Garcia, David Puyol Izquierdo and Javier Ortega. It was a somewhat conservative 1-0 win in their first game but the Spanish had definitely found their shooting boots now.

In the second half David Puyol Izquierdo scored his third and fourth goals of the tournament to complete a hat-trick and cap a fine game for him personally. His goals would complete a 5-0 victory and give Prospe FC the outright lead at the top of the table.

Despite the loss Red Cow Belgrade were still well placed in second position. If they could put this match behind them and win their remaining games a shot at the overall title was still on the cards.
