Group B kicked off with Hungary versus England as FC Miracle took on Notlob FC.

FC Miracle made a fine debut here in Barcelona at the 2011 Barca Fives. In a difficult group they finished level on points with France's Luminy Wolves (2009 champions). They went on to make the final where they led 1-0 for a period but ultimately missed out 2-1 to a strong Midshires FC team. Can they emulate that performance and go one step further in 2014?

.

Notlob FC are making their 3rd appearance in eurofootballfives competition. They have previously played as John Barnes FC all the way back in tournament #3. That was the 2007 Prague Trophy where they finished 2 nd in their group before a Cup Quarter-Final exit. They followed this up with a trip to the 2012 Mallorca Tournament (also as John Barnes FC) for a stag weekend where they were less successful with a 6 th placed group finish and a Runners Up finish in the Wooden Spoon play-off.

History would suggest that FC Miracle would be favourites and that's how it turned out as they secured a fine 4-1 opening victory. Janos Gal opened the Hungarians account before Zsolt Laszlo (2) and Janos Molnar sealed the win. Paul Murphy grabbed a consolation for Notlob FC.

West One Three of England were next in action BCN Raiders of Spain. West One Three would come to Barcelona as one of the fancied teams for this tournament as they qualified for the tour by winning the Powerade Fives – a national tournament in the UK.

BCN Raiders were on debut and so we were not quite sure what to expect from them but they would have the chance to paint their footballing artistry on the canvas of Pitch C very shortly.

West One Three lived up to their billing as James McCluskey and Lee Currie fired them into a 2-0 first half lead. Sameer Butt would extend the lead to 3-0 before George Isaac completed the scoring at 4-0.

It was a tough opening for BCN Raiders who still had plenty of time in this tournament to find their feet.

Balotellitubbies were the final team to get their campaign started when they took on FC Miracle.

As we saw above, FC Miracle had finished Runners-Up here in 2011. In between that appearance and this one they had competed across Europe. In the 2012 Algarve Open they were equally as strong winning Group C and winning 5 successive games before losing in the Cup Semi-Finals 1-0 to CFC A of France. It was third time lucky for FC Miracle at the 2012 Valencia Fives when they powered their way to a first eurofootballfives.com victory. At the 2013 Mallorca Fives they reached the Cup Semi-Finals where they lost 4-2 to Grant Thornton from Paris. It means, in their 4 previous tournaments they have won once, finished 2nd once, and gone out to French teams in Semi-Finals on the other 2 occasions.

We went goal crazy in this game – at both ends! We had five goals to enjoy during the opening half as it was a game to be a forward and not a defender. FC Miracle edged the opening period 3-2 as goals from Janos Molnar, Zsolt Laszlo and Zeno Hegedus outgunned strikes from Steven Markey and Bela Deak Vecsi.

In the second half FC Miracle eased away from their opponents as Laszlo Horvath (2), Janos Gal and Gergo Tako all scored. There was a symmetry to the scoring for Balotellitubbies as Steven Markey and Bela Deak Vecsi both scored in the second period to add to their first half efforts.

The 7-4 scoreline was the second highest scoring game of the day and FC Miracle had a maximum 6 points from their two games.

Game 4 saw Notlob FC jump out of the frying pan and into the fire as they moved from a fixture against FC Miracle to one against West One Three – a daunting start to the day.

As well as being UK Powerade winners West One Three have experience of our tournaments. It's been a long time since we've seen West One Three on tour but they did compete here in Barcelona in the June 2009 Barcelona Fives. They started off perfectly with a 2-1 win over the then defending champions Rapid Bosco Navas. A 4-4 draw with Spain's Dynamo followed before a narrow 1-0 loss to Bloomberg FC meant they missed out on the Cup. They went on to the Plate Final where they met Dynamo again and took the Runners-Up medals going down 3-2.

A lot can happen in 5 years and just one man (Sameer Butt) remained from the 2009 tournament. West One Three were looking to be a superior outfit in their 2014 guise and they took no prisoners in chalking up their second win of the tournament.

James McCluskey was the chief architect of the victory bagging a hat-trick but he was ably assisted by a brace from George Isaac. That was 9 goals in two games for West One Three. A small blot on their copybook was conceding their first goal of the day as Mat Bowman gave his Notlob FC teammates something to cheer. Final score, 5-1.

Game 5 saw BCN Raiders take on Balotellitubbies. Both these teams had started their campaign with defeats against illustrious opposition and would consider this game a chance to kickstart their relative campaigns.

We list BCN Raiders as Spanish but their squad is comprised of Bolivian nationals bringing a bit of South American flair to today's proceedings in Barcelona. It was the Spanish-Bolivian axis of football that struck the first blow against the visiting Irish team. Jesus Lordae giving the home team a first half lead.

Balotellitubbies had been in good goalscoring form in the opening game but they needed to find at least another here to avoid slipping to a second defeat. Bela Deak Vecsi had scored twice in Balotellitubbies first game and he was to score his 3rd in 2 games here to rescue a point for his team. Final score, 1-1.

At the half-way stage of Group B it was looking like a two horse race at the top with just 1 point separating third to fifth.
