Game
8 of Group B saw Balotellitubbies hoping to move
up the table to chase Plate qualification. In
their way stood the formidable obstacle of West
One Three. The English team had been resplendent
so far and needed just a draw to secure the Group
B title and ensure a successful start to their
Barcelona Fives campaign.
With
3 wins, 9 points, 10 goals scored and just one
conceded it was no surprise to see West One Three
open up an early two goal cushion. It was also
no surprise to see James McCluskey as the man
tucking the ball in the net with #6 and #7 for
him surely a contender for the Top Goalscorer
award.
West
One Three were not to have it all their own way
though as Balotellitubbies hit back. With 5 goals
in 2 games they were not shy in front of goal
and they stormed back into it and pulled off a
great 3-3 draw. Surely, for most observers, this
was an unexpected and bonus point. It was a quality
result for the Irish team as goals from Ruairi
Burns (2) and Bela Deak Vecsi (who had now scored
in all 3 games) saw them earn their second draw
of the day.
Lee
Currie, with his second of the day, was the scorer
of the third goal for West One Three. The result
was enough to see them safely through as Group
B winners.
