The 2014 Barcelona Fives had been the most difficult ever to qualify for the Cup competition and therefore we expected a very strong Plate competition with some quality teams that would have otherwise made the Cup in some of our other tournaments. Although it was a 25-team competition last year in 2013 we believe the general standard and quality was even higher here in 2014.

The Plate Quarter-Finals would begin with Red Cow Belgrade meeting BCN Raiders. Red Cow Belgrade would consider themselves unlucky not to be in the Cup competition as they finished the 9th ranked team in group phase. They missed out as one of the best second best placed finishers by just one goal – Liverpool Central had +5, they had +4. With 3 wins out of 4 they would start as favourites against BCN Raiders who had 1 win, 1 draw and 2 defeats to date.

Red Cow Belgrade continued their form from the group phase as they hit the front through Thomas Goyski. It was a lead they were to take into the turnaround. Red Cow Belgrade had played one Plate Quarter-Final to date and lost it narrowly, 3-2, to Ireland's Puskas Dolls. There was to be no defeat this time as second half goals from Joe Smith and then Daz Bray ensured a 3-0 win.

Pitch B played host to the 2nd Plate Quarter-Final between ADP Netherlands and The Matt-Adors. After Red Cow Belgrade, the Dutch team had the second best record of all the teams in the Plate as they qualified as the fifth best second placed team in the group phase. ADP Netherlands were also unbeaten (2 wins, 2 draws) so it would be a tough ask for The Matt-Adors to progress in this tournament.

The Matt-Adors had finished third in Group C to reach this stage with 1 win, 1 draw and two defeats. They found this game one match too far. From the moment ADP Netherlands took the lead through Nico van der Spoel they never looked back.

Remco Nijland doubled the lead before Peter Hesseling made it 3-0. Jan Van Raabenswaaij and then Ruud Viveen made it 5-0….it was only half-time. The Matt-Adors did get on the scoresheet through Daniel Trueman but it was only ever going to be a consolation strike.

ADP Netherlands showed their opponents no mercy as Jeroen Quispel scored twice in the second half with goals from Berry Koostra, Peter Hesseling, Jan Van Rabenswaaij and Michiel Nagelhout sandwiched in between. Final score, 11-1.

ADP Netherlands had scored the biggest win of the day at the 2013 Barcelona Fives with a 7-3 win over ADP Dream Team of Spain. They had repeated the feat in 2014 with this result going down as the biggest win of this year's tournament.

The Matt-Adors like their other team, Notlob FC, were out – we hope they enjoyed their day and it was great to see the lads at the post-tournament social too.

Plate Quarter-Final 3 would see Naranjitos meet Rapid Bosco Navas. Both teams had finished third in their group on 4 points with one win, one draw and two wins. Naranjitos had the better of the goal difference though with 8 goals for, five against compared to Rapid Bosco Navas's four goals for and six against.

Naranjitos were playing in their second eurofootballfives.com Quarter-Final. At the 2014 Valencia Fives they went out 5-3 to eventual winners Sparta (Spa). Could they fare better at Plate level….again against fellow Spanish opposition. For Rapid Bosco Navas this was their 9th appearance and following 7 consecutive years qualifying for the Cup they dropped down to the Trophy (winning their Quarter-Final) and were up a level to the Plate this year. They were still looking to replicate their stunning success in 2008.

It was Naranjitos who emerged victorious with a narrow 2-1 win. Goals from Jorge Bayer Saez and David Moya Aparicio outgunned Alan Cabezas Amor's third goal of the tournament for Rapid Bosco Navas.

Rapid were out but we hope they will be able to join us in 2015 for what would be a sensational 10 th appearance at the Barcelona Fives.

Who would meet Naranjitos in the Plate Semi-Finals? Balotellitubbies and Missing Magpies were the teams set to do battle.

It was 3rd in Group B against 3rd in Group E. The two teams were the highest points scorers of the third placed teams in the morning group phase with Missing Magpies picking up six points – only losing to last year's winners Los Swallacticos and the impressive Monexy of Ukraine. Balotellitubbies had picked up 5 points with just the one defeat – which was in the very first game against 2012 Valencia Fives champions FC Miracle.

The tie was set up to be a great encounter and arguably the highest standard of the Plate Quarter-Finals. The game proved to be a very close contest in the opening period with the deadlock unable to be broken, 0-0.

After the break it was the Missing Magpies who struck first when Tom Bird put his side one goal to the good. In the colours of Saipan FC Barry Lysaght scores captain's goals and although not a captain's goal today he scored a vitally important goal to make it 2-0 before a double from Pete Bell sealed the tie with a comprehensive looking 4-0 scoreline.
