TEAM Polonia Limerick (Pol)

The Plate final saw Bushells Old Boys take on TEAM Polonia Limerick, with both sides aiming to end the tournament on a high. These two teams would need to summon one last burst of energy to ensure they would be picking up winners and not runners-up medals in the presentation.

The Plate Final was beautifully set up to be an enthralling and tight contest. Bushells Old Boys started the day with two narrow defeats by the odd goal but had then won three in a row culminating in a 6-0 win over Los Amblos in the previous game. TEAM Polonia Limerick had only lost once all day against Group B winners FC Miracle. The Polish team were looking to avenge defeat in last year's Super Vets title against English side Bristol Wanderers. The two teams had remarkably similar records in terms of goals scored and against, 13-5 (Bushells Old Boys), 14-5 (TEAM Polonia Limerick. There really was little to choose between the two teams prior to kick-off.

With the game underway, TEAM Polonia Limerick made the initial breakthrough in a closely contested Plate Final, with Miro Kurzeja putting the Polish side 1-0 ahead. Kurzeja's strike was his fourth goal of the tournament and gave TEAM Polonia Limerick a valuable advantage. Bushells Old Boys had shown their attacking capabilities with a convincing 6-0 semi-final victory, but they faced a much sterner test here against opponents who had lost just once all day. TEAM Polonia Limerick carried their lead into half-time, leaving Bushells needing to find a response if they were to complete their impressive debut tournament with the Plate title.

The second half saw TEAM Polonia Limerick strengthen their position when Kamil Zaziesinka found the net to make it 2-0. It was Zaziesinka's first goal of the day, and there could hardly have been a more important moment for him to open his account. Bushells Old Boys refused to give up, however, and Paul Johnstone brought them back into contention with his fourth goal of the tournament, cutting the deficit to 2-1. The closing stages promised a tense finish, with Bushells searching for an equaliser, but TEAM Polonia Limerick held firm to see out the victory and claim the Plate title.

For Bushells Old Boys, the narrow defeat will naturally be a disappointment after coming so close to lifting silverware, but there is plenty to celebrate from a hugely encouraging debut at Super Veterans level. After opening the day with those two one-goal defeats, they showed excellent resilience to respond with three consecutive victories. Their run to the final demonstrated that they can compete with established sides in the tournament. They leave Lloret de Mar as Plate runners-up, having made an immediate impression in their first appearance showing they are very competitive at this level.

Congratulations to TEAM Polonia Limerick on winning the Plate Final. Having finished as Plate runners-up in Barcelona last year, the Polish side went one better in Lloret de Mar, showing the consistency and composure required to prevail in a final decided by the narrowest of margins. Their six-match campaign brought four wins, a draw and just one defeat, with 16 goals scored and only six conceded – that is often Cup form. They boasted goals from across the squad and were strong at the back helping them navigate a demanding day and finish with the Plate trophy. This was a well-earned success after another strong showing on the Super Veterans stage.
