The first Cup Semi-Final was an intriguing affair as Athletico met Bathletico. The game was a derby match between the two Madridlesborough squads. It is not often teams from the same club meet in eurofootballfives competition but when they do it often has a strange atmosphere – sometimes the games can lack a little intensity or sometimes the games can have a bit too much intensity with players determined not to lose to their tour-mates. One thing was for sure that Madridlesborough would have a team in the Semi-Finals and that bragging rights were at stake for the rest of the Lloret de Mar tour and beyond. Bathletico had the better statistical record in the group phase with 12 points and were the top scorers in the tournament with 22 scored. Athletico had won their group though with 10 points, had scored plenty with 15 goals but had the better defensive record with just 4 conceded (to Bathletico's 11). It would be a brave person to pick a winner in this one!

The match certainly lived up to expectations as the two sides traded goals in an entertaining opening spell. Athletico struck first through George Hayward, only for Bathletico to respond through Lawrence Howard and bring the scores level at 1-1. Athletico, however, soon began to establish control. Ed Main restored their advantage before Jamie Randall extended it to 3-1, giving Athletico a two-goal cushion at the break. The Group A winners had demonstrated their defensive strength throughout the tournament so Bathletico needed a big response after half-time, yet Cameron Gough quickly pushed Athletico further ahead before Alex Household made it 5-1. With a four-goal deficit to overcome, Bathletico faced a monumental challenge if they were to keep their Cup Final hopes alive.

Ben Speak gave Bathletico a glimmer of hope by pulling one back for his seventh goal of the tournament, but Hayward struck again to take Athletico to 6-2, registering his eleventh goal of the competition. Even then, Bathletico refused to give up, with Joe Brown and Max Starling both finding the net during a late rally that cut the deficit to two goals. Their fightback made for a potentially nervy finish, but Athletico held on to secure a 6-4 victory and book their place in the Cup Final. In a derby where bragging rights were firmly on the line, Athletico had delivered at the crucial time, overcoming their tour mates and rivals and ensuring that they would be the Madridlesborough side competing for cup final glory.

The second Cup Semi-Final was a blockbuster encounter between Colonel Getafe (Eng) and F.R. Ady (Hun). The two teams met in the 2025 Barcelona Sevens Cup Semi-Finals where the matched ended 1-1 with the Hungarians progressing on penalties (4-3). This was the 2023 Krakow Trophy champions versus the 2025 Barcelona Sevens champions. Colonel Getafe had been in imperious form today with 5 wins out of 5, 14 goals scored and 4 conceded. F.R.Ady had been made to work hard to reach this stage with 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat but they had showed their resilience to win their final two games to reach this stage by a point. They had also been amongst the goals with 13 scored but had conceded 8.

F.R. Ady made the initial breakthrough through Szabo Csaba, who continued his impressive day in front of goal by registering his fourth strike of the tournament. Colonel Getafe, however, were not about to let their unbeaten record slip away without a fight. Joe Garvey brought the English side level at 1-1, setting up a tense battle between two teams with major honours already on their CVs. The sides went in level at half-time, and the scoreline was identical to their Cup Semi-Final meeting in Barcelona 12 months earlier. On that occasion, F.R. Ady had progressed after winning a penalty shootout but this time there would be no need for penalties to decide the outcome.

Colonel Getafe came out determined to write a different ending to the story, and Garvey delivered at a crucial time, scoring his second goal of the match to put his side 2-1 ahead. F.R. Ady had no answer to that decisive strike, and Colonel Getafe held on to complete a memorable victory. Not only had they gained revenge for their penalty-shootout heartbreak in Barcelona, but they had also maintained their remarkable perfect record in Lloret de Mar, winning all six matches on their way to the Cup Final. The 2023 Krakow Trophy champions were now just one victory away from adding another major title to their collection, setting up a mouth-watering final against Athletico Madridlesborough.

Commiserations to F.R. Ady, whose defence of their Barcelona Sevens crown came to an end at the semi-final stage. The Hungarians had shown tremendous resilience to navigate a challenging group phase and arrive within touching distance of another final, battling through adversity and producing crucial results when their campaign was on the line. It was a pleasure to host them once again.
