Following successful tournaments in Barcelona,
Valencia became the second Spanish destination
in the eurofootballfives.com calendar.
The
tournament saw us welcome back many friendly faces
in the form of CSF,
Prisoners and
9 Nana Budds
(from the Yorvik Blades stable).
The
CSF
are far from strangers to eurofootballfives.com
competition making an impressive 7th eurofootballfives.com
appearance. This 7th appearance also means the
CSF will have competed in all the destinations
we currently offer. We are therefore sending our
scouts far and wide for new challenges in new
destination not only for the CSF but for all our
valued clients.
On
the field, the CSF have enjoyed a fair bit of
success. This year alone they have claimed the
Algarve Open and Amsterdam Five Plate titles.
Add this to a 2008 Krakow Trophy Plate victory
and Plate Runners-Up in the 2007 Prague Trophy
and you can see that the CSF boast considerable
experience. What price another Plate victory in
Valencia?
Prisoners
are no strangers to Plate success themselves
as they lifted the 2008 Prague Masters Plate trophy
in a penalty shoot-out against Irish team The
Shooting Shamrocks. The final was one of our best
ever and was an epic struggle with the penalty
shoot-out eventually being won 6-5. In the 2008
Barca Fives pre-tournament drinking hindered their
chances and they crashed out in the Plate semi-finals.
Jack
Kennedy, formerly of the Yorvik Blades, brought
his 9 Nana Budds
team to the Valencia party. In the 2008
Barca Fives, as part of the Yorvik Blades squad,
he was responsible for handing out a 3-0 defeat
to the CSF. Will a repeat be on the cards if they
are drawn together this year?
Local
teams Shabbier,
Legends, Calpe Crocks and Art
Hosteleria made
their debuts and were determined to win on home
soil.
The
2009 Valencia Fives also saw an exciting new format
for the event. The morning playoff phase was to
be decided upon two groups with 4 teams in each
group.
The
teams finishing 1st and 2nd in each group will
progress to the Cup
Group.
The
teams finishing 3rd and 4th in each group will
progress to the Plate
Group.
The
winners of each of these groups would be crowned
Cup and Plate champions and surely deserve their
victories!
