In
Round 3, Prisoners continued their return to form
against The Wild Rovers. Wild Rovers were competing
well without taking results and points from their
games. A double from Fabio Hoesli and a third
from Chris Aronson ensured the three points were
added to the Prisoners points column. The final
score, 3-0.
The
spectators on Pitch C then witnessed a thriller
between Athletico Apsley and SK Zelenec. The English
team established a 3-1 lead thanks to a double
from Tommy Peters and a goal from Joseph Tilt
in reply to a strike from Stanislav Krebs. The
Czech side fought back to 3-3 thanks to Stanislav
Krebs again and Jaroslav Sladky. It was at this
stage when a match changing flashpoint occurred.
An over zealous challenge from one of the SK Zelenec
players (who shall remain nameless) was rewarded
with a yellow card. Kicking the ball away was
rewarded with a second yellow and a quickly followed
red card to reduce the Czechs to four men. Athletico
Aspleyused the man advantage to re-establish the
lead 4-3 through Darren Cocking. Athletico Apsley
could be forgiven for thinking game over but SK
Zelenec were not to be beaten and another equaliser
from Radek Sulta this time earned the Czechs a
4-4 draw and a point.
Prisoners
and Shooting Shamrocks, both on 6 points, met
with a chance to pull away from their close rivals
in a group that was rapidly becoming very tight
at the top. The Shooting Shamrocks took a 100%
record into the game that was to end here. Although
the 100% record was lost the unbeaten record remained
following a 2-2 draw. Goals from Fabio Hoesli
and Chris Aronson for Prisoners and Foley and
O Shaughnessy for the Shooting Shamrocks earned
the teams a point each.
The
point was good enough to see the teams joint top
of Group B with Shooting Shamrocks edging it on
goal difference with a game in hand.
