The
Czech Rep and Ireland kicked off Group B as SK
Zelenec played hosts to The Wild Rovers. The eurofootballfives.com
tour to Prague in 2007 had seen home domination
and that looked set to continue as SK Zelenec
did just enough in a close encounter to take all
three points. Stanislav Krebs scoring the decisive
strike after Jiri Jindra and Brendan Boyce had
seen the teams tied at 1-1. The perfect start
for SK Zelenec on their eurofootballfives.com
debut.
Meanwhile,
on Pitch C the Prisoners and Bartley Greeners
were beginning their campaigns. In another close
game the teams again could only be separated by
the odd goal. Justin Phillips and Dan Genders
both scored for their respective sides to set
the game up for a thrilling finale when delicately
poised at 1-1. Bartley Greeners keeper, Chris
Pinnington, was in inspired form to keep his team
in it whilst at the other end Adam Swarbrick scored
a stunning free kick to earn the Bartley Greeners
a vital three points. Prisoners could consider
themselves a touch unlucky but had four more group
games to reverse their fortunes.
The
Wild Rovers were in action again on Pitch B next
in the all Irish ‘derby' against The Shooting
Shamrocks. For the third consecutive game in Group
B we found ourselves locked at 1-1. Conor Kehoe
(Wild Rovers) and Anthony Foley (Shooting Shamrocks)
the men to put their teams on the scoreboard.
From there it was the Shooting Shamrocks who kicked
on and goals from Michael Kett and Gary Manning
completed a solid 3-1 win.
