Goldsmith
Will iams and Real Apsley went into their fixture
boasting the only unbeaten records in the group.
Unless this game finished in a draw one of those
records would have to give way. As it turned out,
Goldsmith Will iams made short work of retaining
the record for themselves and ending that of Real
Apsley. In a very one-sided affair, Real Apsley
did not perform to the same level as before and
were made to pay. A hat-trick for Kevin Smith
was the highlight but also Adam Spicer (2), Chris
Will iams , Mike Hughes and David Lowry got their
names in the referee's scorebook as they completed
an 8-2 win to go top of Group A. Lee Carter and
Gareth Rigby with consolations for Real Apsley
who still had two games left to decide their own
fate in this tournament.
Lucky
Leprechauns were looking to continue their recovery
in this group when they met Wafty Crankers. Wafty
Crankers would have been full of confidence themselves
though after their amazing comeback against DHL
Prague. In the end it was to be the English team
who took the points in a 4-1 win after goals James
Rowland (2), Neill Fraser and Michael Phillips
– the same scorers as their previous game. Thomas
Jennings of the Lucky Leprechauns made it two
from two for him but the goal was not enough.
The result elevated Wafty Crankers to second whilst
Lucky Leprechauns stayed 5 th needing a result
from their final game to make the Plate knock-out
phase.
The
odds were against Kehar Club going into their
final game. They needed results elsewhere to go
in their favour and to beat Goldsmith Will iams
heavily. Goldsmith Will iams had a 100% record
so this would need a Herculean effort. The game
went with the form book and Goldsmith Will iams
duly wrapped up the victory to make it four wins
from four. A double from Chris Will iams followed
by goals from Adam Spicer and David Lowry put
them on their way to a 4-1 victory. Josef Rakosnik
scoring the 13 th and final goal for Kehar Club
in an unlucky title defense for them.
