Group
A was kicked off with an all Czech encounter and
a heavyweight one at that. The 2007 Prague Masters
winners and defending champions Kehar Club took
on 2007 Prague Trophy runners-up, DHL Prague.
The game did not go to plan for the current title-holders
as they quickly found themselves 2-0 down after
two goals from Leo Echeverria. Kehar Club showed
why they were champions though and fought back
to 2-2 thanks to Martin Drazan and Petr Pergler.
The momentum in this game was now swinging the
other way but DHL Prague dug deep to regain the
lead thanks to a hat-trick goal from Leo Echeverria.
Kehar Club pulled level again with a second from
Martin Drazan. With time ticking away and a draw
looking likely Gareth Evers of DHL Prague popped
up to score a late winner. A great start for DHL
Prague and food for thought for the current chamions.
Real
Apsley and Lucky Leprechauns met in the next game
in Group A as England met Ireland . Real Apsley
got off to the perfect start racing into an early
lead from which they never really looked back.
The English team largely had the exploits of Lee
Carter up front to thank with four goals and a
fifth goal from Ken Hills . Lucky Leprechauns
did get on the scoresheet though thanks to Steve
McNamara which ruined Chris Owen's chance of a
clean sheet in the Real Apsley goal. The game
finished 5-1 and three points to the English team.
Kehar
Club started their second match of the round against
Wafty Crankers making their debut in eurofootballfives.com
competition. Kehar Club knew they had it all to
do having lost their opening fixture and as defending
champions they were there to be shot down. Shot
down they were and in emphatic style as James
Rowland (3) and Neill Fraser (2) enjoyed the freedom
of the Kehar Club defence. The Wafty Crankers
were over the moon with their prized scalp whilst
Kehar Club were looking a shadow of their 2007
team with two defeats in two games. They were
propping up Group A while Wafty Crankers joined
DHL Prague and Real Apsley on top with three points
each.
