Game
6 of Group C saw The Vic FC face the daunting
challenge of taking on Ecuador 100%, who had been
in devastating form throughout the opening stages
of the tournament. The Vic FC had just secured
their first victory of the day with a hard-fought
1-0 win over Morocco Team and were hoping to build
momentum from that result. Standing in their way,
however, was arguably the most feared attacking
side in the competition. Ecuador 100% had already
collected maximum points from their opening two
fixtures, scoring an incredible 12 goals in victories
over Sheffield Thursday Navy and Wentworth Arms
A. Another win here would guarantee their place
in the Cup competition.
Ecuador
100% wasted little time in continuing their relentless
attacking form. Jose Mosquera opened the scoring
before Estivan Lastra added two more goals to
further strengthen his growing reputation in front
of goal. Both Mosquera and Lastra had now scored
in all three games of the tournament, underlining
the consistency and firepower that Ecuador possessed.
Ivan Lee then joined the scoring for the second
game in succession as Ecuador stormed into a commanding
4-0 lead by half-time. Their pace, movement and
clinical finishing once again proved incredibly
difficult for opponents to contain.
To
their credit, The Vic FC refused to capitulate
and produced a spirited response in the second
half. Harry Bradford pulled a goal back to reward
their persistence and determination, giving the
English side something to cheer despite the uphill
battle they faced. Ecuador 100%, however, quickly
restored control of the contest as Ivan Lee grabbed
his second goal of the match to make it 5-1. Archie
Ring then added another goal for The Vic FC, ensuring
the game finished on a competitive note and highlighting
the fighting spirit shown by the underdogs throughout
the second half.
At
full-time, Ecuador 100% recorded another emphatic
victory, this time by a 5-2 scoreline, maintaining
their perfect record in Group C with three wins
from three matches. Their qualification for the
Cup competition was now mathematically secured,
and with 17 goals scored already, they looked
every inch one of the tournament favourites once
again. For The Vic FC, despite suffering defeat,
there were positives to take from scoring twice
against such formidable opposition, and they remained
firmly in contention for qualification with one
group game still to come.

The
next game in Group C took place on Pitch A as
Wentworth Arms A faced Sheffield Thursday Navy
in a match with significant implications for
the race to qualify for the Cup competition.
Wentworth Arms A entered the fixture with one
win and one defeat from their opening two games,
leaving them in joint second place in the standings.
A victory here would create breathing space
between themselves and the chasing pack. Sheffield
Thursday Navy, meanwhile, sat bottom of the
table with just one point, but the group remained
so tight behind Ecuador 100% that a win could
potentially lift them all the way into second
position.
The
opening half was closely contested, with Sheffield
Thursday Navy battling hard to frustrate their
opponents and stay in contention. Wentworth
Arms A gradually began to assert themselves
though, and their breakthrough came through
Liam O'Connell. His goal gave Wentworth the
advantage and continued his reputation as a
reliable source of goals in eurofootballfives
tournaments. Sheffield Thursday Navy worked
hard to respond before the interval, but Wentworth
Arms defended solidly to take a 1-0 lead into
half-time.
The
second half saw Wentworth Arms A grow stronger
and take firmer control of proceedings. Much
of that was down to the outstanding form of
Phil King, who once again demonstrated his finishing
ability in front of goal. He doubled the lead
before adding another to complete a brace and
take his overall tournament tally to five goals.
Sheffield Thursday Navy continued to compete
and never stopped working, but they found it
difficult to break down a disciplined Wentworth
defence while also containing the growing attacking
threat at the other end.
At
full-time, Wentworth Arms A secured an impressive
3-0 victory that moved them firmly into second
place in Group C. With Ecuador 100% already
setting the pace at the top, Wentworth Arms
now looked favourites to join them in the Cup
competition heading into the final round of
fixtures. For Sheffield Thursday Navy, the defeat
left qualification hopes hanging by a thread,
but with one game remaining, they still had
a final opportunity to finish the group stage
on a positive note.

The
next fixture in Group C saw Morocco Team take
on Ecuador 100% in what was the South Americans'
final group game of the morning. Ecuador 100%
had already secured qualification for the Cup
competition thanks to three consecutive victories,
but they still had further motivation coming into
this contest. A point would guarantee them as
Group C winners, while a victory would complete
a flawless group campaign with a 100% record.
Morocco Team, meanwhile, entered the game sitting
fourth in the standings. Two points adrift of
third place and five behind second, they realistically
needed a positive result to keep alive any hopes
of sneaking into the Cup places.
Despite
the daunting challenge ahead of them, Morocco
Team once again demonstrated the defensive qualities
that had impressed throughout the day. Ecuador
100%, who had scored at least five goals in every
previous game, found themselves frustrated for
long periods by a determined and disciplined Moroccan
back line. Morocco defended with organisation
and intensity, restricting clear-cut opportunities
and forcing the tournament favourites to work
much harder than they had in earlier matches.
By half-time, the score remained 0-0, a significant
achievement against such formidable opposition.
The
second half continued in much the same fashion,
with Morocco Team battling bravely to stay in
the contest. Eventually, however, Ecuador 100%'s
attacking quality told. Estivan Lastra, one of
the leading contenders in the race for the tournament
golden boot, produced the breakthrough his side
had been searching for to make it 1-0. Once the
deadlock had been broken, Ecuador began to find
a little more space, and Jose Mosquera, himself
a former top scorer in this competition, added
a second goal to seal the victory and ensure Ecuador
completed the group stage in perfect fashion.
At
full-time, Ecuador 100% sealed a 2-0 victory that
confirmed them as Group C winners with four wins
from four matches. Their attacking prowess had
once again been evident, but perhaps even more
impressive was the patience they showed against
a stubborn and resilient Morocco Team defence.
For the Moroccan side, there was disappointment
at not managing to claim a point, but this was
still a highly creditable performance against
one of the strongest teams in the tournament.
They remained in fourth position on one point,
but could take pride from pushing Ecuador 100%
harder than any other side had managed so far.

The
penultimate game of Group C saw The Vic FC take
on Sheffield Thursday Navy with plenty still riding
on the outcome. The Vic FC entered the match sitting
in third position and knew that only a victory
would realistically give them a chance of progressing
to the Cup competition as one of the two best
third-placed teams. Sheffield Thursday Navy, meanwhile,
already knew they would be heading into the Plate
competition regardless of the result, but there
was still motivation to finish strongly, build
confidence and potentially secure a more favourable
quarter-final draw.
The
Vic FC approached the contest with real determination
and purpose, fully aware of the importance of
the occasion. Their positive start was rewarded
in the first half when Harry Bradford opened the
scoring to put his side 1-0 ahead. Sheffield Thursday
Navy continued to compete and looked to respond,
but The Vic FC defended with discipline and organisation
to preserve their advantage heading into the half-time
interval. The game remained finely poised.
In
the second half, The Vic FC continued to push
for the result they needed and eventually found
a crucial second goal through Archie Ring. That
strike gave them breathing space and strengthened
their hopes of reaching the Cup knockout stages.
Sheffield Thursday Navy battled until the end
and continued to show good spirit despite the
setback, but they could not find a breakthrough
against a well-drilled Vic defence. The match
finished 2-0, securing an important victory and
clean sheet for The Vic FC.
The
result lifted The Vic FC onto six points and set
up a dramatic situation between the third-placed
teams across all three groups. RAF of Portugal
secured qualification with a goal difference of
minus one, leaving The Vic FC and Eltham International
tied on six points and a goal difference of minus
two. In the end, it came down to goals scored,
and Eltham International edged through to the
Cup competition by scoring one more goal than
The Vic FC. It was heartbreakingly close for The
Vic FC, who could nevertheless take enormous credit
for a strong group campaign before turning their
attention towards the Plate competition.

The
final game of Group C brought together Wentworth
Arms A and Morocco Team with both sides still
having plenty to play for despite knowing which
knockout competitions they were likely heading
towards. Wentworth Arms A entered the fixture
in second position and knew that a draw or better
would guarantee their place in the Cup competition.
A defeat, however, could potentially leave them
sweating on goal difference depending on other
outcomes. Morocco Team, meanwhile, already knew
they would be competing in the Plate competition
regardless of the result, but there was still
significant incentive to finish strongly. A point
would guarantee fourth place, while a heavy defeat
could potentially see them slip to the bottom
of the standings.
The
opening half proved to be a closely fought encounter
with little to separate the two teams. Wentworth
Arms A looked dangerous going forward and took
the lead through Ben Webb, whose goal edged the
English side in front. Morocco Team responded
well though and continued to show the resilience
and defensive organisation that had impressed
throughout the day. Their reward came through
El Mehdi Bougara, who brought the sides level
before the interval. At half-time, the score stood
at 1-1 and the match remained finely balanced.
The
second half continued in entertaining fashion
with both sides fully committed to finishing the
group phase positively. Phil King maintained his
remarkable scoring record by finding the net yet
again for Wentworth Arms A, meaning he had now
scored in every group game for his side. Morocco
Team, however, refused to back down and produced
an excellent response. Osama proved to be the
hero for the Moroccans as he struck twice to swing
the contest in his side's favour and secure a
memorable first victory of the tournament. Wentworth
Arms A pushed hard for another equaliser, but
Morocco Team held firm to complete an impressive
comeback.
At
full-time, Morocco Team celebrated a 3-2 victory
to end their Group C campaign on a real high.
After several competitive performances earlier
in the day, they finally earned the result their
efforts deserved and secured fourth place in the
standings. For Wentworth Arms A, despite the disappointment
of defeat, they had done enough over the course
of the group stage to finish second courtesy of
goal difference and therefore qualified for the
Cup competition. Their strong attacking displays
throughout the morning ensured they would remain
a dangerous side heading into the knockout rounds.
That result also brought the curtain down on an
entertaining and highly competitive Group C campaign.
