The
2026 Mallorca Fives was our 21 st tournament on
the sunshine island of Mallorca. The 9th May event
kicked off the eurofootballfives.com 2026 season
and was another great day of competition. We had
15 teams assembled from 6 proud nations with Ecuador,
England, Ireland, Morocco, Portugal and Spain
all represented. It was partly cloudy today giving
the teams some respite from the sun. The teams
were ready (some more than others with hangovers
fresh)…the big kick-off was upon us.
The
opening game of the 2026 Mallorca Fives Group
A brought together two familiar opponents as Portugal's
RAF faced England's Sutton on Tour in a rematch
of their meeting from the 2024 edition of the
tournament. On that occasion the sides had played
out a goalless draw in Group C, but there would
be no repeat of that stalemate this time around.
RAF looked sharp from the opening whistle and
quickly settled into their rhythm. Tiago Guerreiro
had the honour of scoring the first goal of the
2026 Mallorca Fives, giving the Portuguese side
an early lead and setting the tone for the contest.
Sutton on Tour tried to respond but RAF continued
to press forward with confidence, and Cristiano
Pico doubled the advantage before the break. At
half-time, RAF held a commanding 2-0 lead and
appeared firmly in control.
The
second half followed a similar pattern as RAF
continued to move the ball well and create chances.
Pedro Neves extended the lead to 3-0, seemingly
putting the result beyond doubt. To their credit,
Sutton on Tour refused to fold and Finn Bosier
pulled a goal back to give the English side a
glimmer of hope at 3-1. Any thoughts of a comeback
were quickly extinguished, however, when Cristiano
Pico struck again to restore RAF's three-goal
cushion and complete a fine individual display.
At
the final whistle, RAF emerged with an impressive
4-1 victory to open their Group A campaign in
style. The Portuguese side looked dangerous throughout
and immediately laid down a marker for the rest
of the group. Sutton on Tour, meanwhile, will
hope to regroup quickly as the tournament moves
on, knowing there is still plenty of football
left to play in the race for Cup qualification.

The
second game in Group A saw tournament regulars
Deportivo Dooradoyle of Ireland take on debutants
Old Salesians of England. While Old Salesians
were making their first appearance on our circuit,
Deportivo Dooradoyle were one of the more experienced
sides in attendance, having competed in our
events since 2011. Their most recent visit to
Mallorca came in 2024 when they reached the
Cup Semi-Finals, recording impressive wins over
The Yol, Wentworth Arms Royals and Sheffield
Thurdsday before eventually being knocked out
by eventual champions Team Rock. With that pedigree
behind them, they came into 2026 hoping to mount
another strong challenge.
It
was Old Salesians, however, who made the brighter
start. The English side showed no signs of nerves
on debut and struck first through George Walker,
whose finish gave them an early advantage. Walker
then doubled both his tally and his team's lead
with another well-taken goal, putting the newcomers
firmly in control at 2-0. Deportivo Dooradoyle
responded before the interval when Mike Kelleher
pulled a goal back for the Irish team, ensuring
the match remained finely balanced at 2-1 heading
into half-time.
The
second half saw Deportivo Dooradoyle grow into
the game. They pushed forward with greater urgency
in search of an equaliser while Old Salesians
worked hard to protect their slender lead. Eventually
the pressure told when Patrick O'Brien found
the breakthrough, levelling the scores at 2-2
and completing the Irish comeback. Both teams
searched for a winner in the closing stages,
but neither side could find the decisive touch.
At
full-time, the points were shared in an entertaining
2-2 draw. Old Salesians could take great encouragement
from an impressive debut performance in which
they pushed one of the tournament's established
sides all the way. Deportivo Dooradoyle, meanwhile,
showed resilience to recover from two goals
down and avoid defeat. With Group A only just
underway, both teams had laid solid foundations
upon which to build their qualification hopes.

Game
3 of Group A saw Spanish debutants Inter Campos
take to the field for the very first time in our
tournaments as they faced Portugal's RAF. The
Portuguese side had already made an excellent
start to the 2026 Mallorca Fives with a convincing
4-1 victory earlier in the day against Sutton
on Tour. RAF also arrived in Mallorca with positive
memories from the 2024 edition, where they enjoyed
a successful run in the Plate competition. Inter
Campos, meanwhile, were eager to announce themselves
on debut against one of the early form teams in
the group.
RAF
began confidently and looked threatening from
the outset. Their pressure paid off when they
took the lead thanks to an unfortunate own goal,
giving the Portuguese side the perfect platform
to build upon. Inter Campos responded positively,
however, and refused to let the setback disrupt
their gameplan. Pedro Marin Luis Hiano etched
his name into the tournament records by scoring
Inter Campos' first ever goal in our events, levelling
the contest at 1-1 before the break.
The
second half saw RAF's greater experience begin
to show as they regained control of proceedings.
Diogo Goncalves opened his account for the tournament
with a well-taken goal to restore the Portuguese
advantage at 2-1. Inter Campos battled hard to
stay in contention, but RAF continued to look
dangerous whenever they moved forward. Their quality
eventually told once again when Cristiano Pico
found the net for the third time on the day, continuing
his excellent goalscoring form and putting the
game beyond reach at 3-1.
At
the final whistle, RAF celebrated a second consecutive
victory to move top of the Group A standings on
a maximum six points. Two strong performances
had immediately established them as one of the
teams to watch in Mallorca. Inter Campos, despite
defeat, showed enough quality and determination
on debut to suggest they could still have an important
role to play in the group as the tournament progresses.

Group
A action continued with Sutton on Tour taking
on Deportivo Dooradoyle as both sides played their
second matches of the tournament. Sutton on Tour
were looking to bounce back after a difficult
opening defeat against group leaders RAF, while
Deportivo Dooradoyle arrived with confidence after
recovering from 2-0 down to secure a valuable
2-2 draw against Old Salesians. With the group
table beginning to take shape, both teams knew
the importance of putting points on the board
early in the competition.
It
was the experienced Irish side who settled quickest
and began to dictate the tempo of the game. Kevin
Shine opened the scoring for Deportivo Dooradoyle,
giving them an early advantage and rewarding a
positive start. Sutton on Tour attempted to respond,
but Deportivo Dooradoyle continued to look the
more composed side in possession and dangerous
going forward. Before the interval they doubled
their lead when Mike Kelleher found the net for
the second consecutive game, ensuring the Irish
team went into half-time with a commanding 2-0
lead.
The
second half followed a similar pattern as Deportivo
Dooradoyle maintained control and looked increasingly
comfortable. Sutton on Tour battled hard and searched
for a route back into the contest, but chances
proved difficult to come by against a well-organised
opponent. Any lingering hopes of a comeback were
ended when Kevin Shine grabbed his second goal
of the game, extending the lead to 3-0 and capping
an impressive personal performance.
At
the final whistle, Deportivo Dooradoyle celebrated
an assured 3-0 victory that lifted them into second
place in the Group A standings. Having taken four
points from their opening two matches, the Irish
side had made a strong start to their Mallorca
campaign once again. For Sutton on Tour, meanwhile,
it was a second defeat from two matches, leaving
them rooted to the bottom of the table and already
facing an uphill battle in the race for qualification.

Game
5 of Group A brought us to the halfway stage of
the section as Old Salesians met Inter Campos
on Pitch A. Old Salesians came into the contest
encouraged by aspects of their opening 2-2 draw
against Deportivo Dooradoyle, although they may
still have felt frustrated after letting a two-goal
lead slip. Inter Campos, meanwhile, had only played
once so far, suffering a 3-1 defeat to current
leaders RAF. The Spanish side were determined
to respond positively and reignite their qualification
hopes.
From
the opening whistle, Inter Campos looked sharp,
energetic and full of attacking intent. Their
pressure paid off when Ismael Nfenif Angel opened
the scoring to give the Spanish side a deserved
lead. Confidence immediately began to flow through
the team, and Pedro Marin Luis Hiano continued
his excellent tournament form by scoring for the
second consecutive game to make it 2-0. Old Salesians
struggled to contain the relentless attacking
waves, and before the interval Ismael Macundo
Ballester added a third goal to complete a devastating
first-half display. At half-time, Inter Campos
were firmly in control at 3-0.
Any
hopes of an Old Salesians comeback were quickly
extinguished after the restart as Inter Campos
continued to produce some of the most fluent football
seen so far in Group A. Ismael Nfenif Angel struck
again to make it 4-0 before Pedro Marin Luis Hiano
grabbed his second goal of the game for 5-0. Samuel
Pinoj Guisado then added his name to the scoresheet
as the Spanish side showed no signs of slowing
down. There was still time for Ismael Nfenif Angel
to complete an excellent hat-trick performance,
before Orio Tejada Ladamate rounded off the scoring
to complete a stunning 8-0 victory.
The
emphatic result lifted Inter Campos into third
place at the halfway stage of Group A and dramatically
boosted both their confidence and goal difference
heading into the remaining fixtures. After the
disappointment of their opening defeat, this was
the perfect response from the Spanish debutants.
For Old Salesians, meanwhile, it was a difficult
afternoon that saw them slip to fourth place in
the standings, leaving them with work to do if
they are to force their way back into the qualification
picture. |
