Game 6 threw Deportivo Dooradoyle and Contejus Hurricanes together. Deportivo Dooradoyle were occupying mid-table at present but they could make it a 3-way tie at the top with victory here. Contejus Hurricanes were so far without a win and needed to turn things around quickly.

We reached half-time and the scorers were untroubled with both defences and goalkeepers on top, 0-0. In the second half Contejus Hurricanes broke their duck as captain Joe Latimer lead the way to give his side a 1-0 lead. Chris Agathangelou followed his captain's lead by chipping in with number two and then it was Agathangelou again to make it 3-0 and cap a great second half and a great win.

It was just the result Contejus Hurricanes needed and just what Deportivo Dooradoyle didn't. Both teams sat on 3 points in mid-table.

It was a top of the table clash next as ManDem United and Olhanense came face to face. A draw would mean both teams secured Cup qualification with a game to spare although we're sure that was not on their minds and Group D victory was the goal. A win here would virtually assure that for the victors. Whoever came out on the wrong end of the result would still have work to do to make the Cup (albeit still in a strong position).

For long periods we were missing a goal and a 0-0 draw was a strong possibility. In the end it would be just the goal to separate the two teams. That goal went to Robert Ursell and ManDem United made it 3 wins out of 3 and were yet to concede a goal due to another clean sheet from goalkeeper Kobinna Wireko. For Olhanense it was close but no cigar but there was still plenty of football for them in the 2012 Algarve Open.

Game 8 was FC Viagra versus Contejus Hurricanes. FC Viagra could become one of three teams on three points if they could take victory here. It would not be easy though against Contejus Hurricanes who would go into the game full of confidence after a 3-0 game last time out.

They started this one as they finished the last game with Chris Agathangelou and Joe Latimer both scoring in the first half. Having gone 5 halves of football without a goal they had now scored 5 in no time at all in the latter stages of the last game and early stages of this one. They were on fire and when Tom Lock made it 3-0 in the second half they were well on their way to two wins on the bounce. Simon Warburton pulled a goal back for FC Viagra (his second of the tournament) but it was to be in vain as they slipped to a 3-1 defeat.

Contejus Hurricanes were in third position and looking to go into the Plate competition with momentum. FC Viagra needed a win in their final game to join them.

Deportivo Dooradoyle needed just a point to qualify for the Plate and a 3 goal win to claim 3rd place. They took on local team Olhanense who only needed to avoid a 4-goal defeat to qualify for the Cup which was unlikely given their results thus far.

The game proved extremely close and was tighter than two coats of paint as half-time came and went with the teams locked at 0-0. Full-time came and went too with still no score so the teams earned a point each. The draw confirmed Olhanense in the Cup and Deportivo Dooradoyle in the Plate.

The above result also confirmed that FC Viagra would play in the Wooden Spoon even if they could pull off a sensational result against ManDem United. The draw above also confirmed that ManDem United went into this game already crowned Group D champions – well done to them.

With the pressure off both teams could enjoy the game. ManDem United seemed to be enjoying it that little bit more as they forged an early 2-0 advantage through Anthony Thomas and Chris McIntosh. Their 100% record in Group D was in the bag and they would progress to the Cup as one of the tournament favourites.

The challenge was over for FC Viagra for whom the Wooden Spoon was waiting.
