Deportivo Dooradoyle kicked off Group D against Mandem United. Deportivo Dooradoyle (Ire) made their debut at the 2011 Amsterdam Fives where they reached the Plate Quarter-Finals with success over Goals Aloud, in the Semi-Finals they were victorious 3-1 over CEPL of Holland before a narrow defeat in the final to Rigford Seahawks (also 2009 Krakow Trophy Cup winners and 2009 Prague Trophy Plate winners). They certainly improved as the day went on.

Mandem United were making their eurofootballfives.com debut so, although we'd not seen them in action personally, were expected to be strong as they qualified for the 2012 Algarve Open courtesy of winning the Leisure Leagues national tournament in 2011.

Deportivo Dooradoyle held their own in the first period and went into the break level at 0-0. In the second half Mandem United flexed their muscle and took the lead through Trevor Dennison. Mandem United had a Portuguese passport holder in their ranks and Andre Rodrigues Da Costa scored on ‘home soil' to make it 2-0 and wrap up all the points for his team. Final score, 2-0.

Contejus Hurricanes were making their debut in eurofootballfives.com tournaments but did have some experience amongst their squad in the shape of captain Joe Latimer who played in the 2011 Amsterdam Fives for eurofootballfives' regulars Brighton & Hove Rockets. In Amsterdam he enjoyed a journey to the Plate Semi-Finals. Could his Contejus Hurricanes side go further in Portugal?

They would begin against Olhanense FC (Por) who had a slow start on their 2009 Algarve Open debut when they finished 4 th in their group qualifying for the Plate where they went on to the final before losing to CSF Porto. Twelve months on they finished 2 nd in their group to qualify for the Cup where they came up against two time winners Athletico Do Hollande and lost 6-0. 2011 was less successful finishing 5 th in their group and losing on penalties in their Wooden Spoon Semi-Final. So, they'd made Cup, Plate and Wooden Spoon in 3 years – which Olhanense would turn up today?

It looked like the team with Cup form as they quickly established a 2-0 lead by the break courtesy of goals from Samuel Santos and Ruben. Santos scored his second of the game after the interval to wrap up a 3-0 victory.

Rapid Viagra were the final team to start their Group D campaign when they played Deportivo Dooradoyle. Rapid Viagra were the second team from the stable of FC Hollywood who were performing well in Group C. Rapid Viagra had a less successful start to their campaign as they fell behind to a Keith Lynch strike for the Irish.

It was just the start Deportivo Dooradoyle needed after opening game defeat. A win here would be a huge lift to their challenge and their chances of victory got an awful lot better when Dave Vaughan doubled the lead. Combine this with a clean sheet for goalkeeper William Quirke and Dooradoyle had won 2-0.

For Rapid Viagra it was an opening game defeat but there was plenty of time left for them in this tournament.

ManDem United entered Game 4 looking to make it two wins out of two when they met Contejus Hurricanes who were looking to avoid two defeats out of two. Their quest for another three points started well when Trevor Dennison scored for the second game in a row.

It was a goal in each half for ManDem United as Ismet Sumbul made it 2-0 after the break and there was no way back for Contejus Hurricanes. ManDem United were looking strong and it was a disappointing start for Contejus Hurricanes (in results terms anyway if not performance) and they were looking to register their first points of the day.

In Game 5 we had a similar preview to the previous game where we had one team (Olhanense) looking for two wins out of two and another team (FC Viagra) who were looking to avoid two defeats out of two.

We had plenty of goals in the opening period with Samuel Santos and Maninho both scoring for the Portuguese side. They did not have it all their own way though as Simon Warburton kept his team in contention. Rapid Viagra turned round just 2-1 behind.

The next goal would be crucial – could Olhanense ease away from their opponents or could FC Viagra get back on level terms. It was the former as Samuel Santos made it 3-1 with his fourth goal in two games and he should have one eye on the day's Golden Boot award. The game finished 3-1 and Olhanense joined ManDem United at the top of Group D and leading on goal difference.
