With 56 games gone before, there was just one more game left to decide the winners of the tournament – the 2012 Algarve Open Cup Final. We had a great final in store and a fantastic crowd assembled by Pitch A and in the beer garden overlooking the pitch. It was a fantastic atmosphere for the two finalists to play in. Those two teams would be CFC A and ManDem United.

There would be a new name on the Algarve Open winners list this year as Athletico Do Holland would relinquish their title from 2010 and 2011. It would be a brand new eurofootballfives.com winner with both teams in their first Final. CFC A were bidding to become the second French team to claim victory after Luminy Wolves 2009 Barca Fives victory. ManDem United were hoping to follow-up their 2011 Leisure Leagues National Final Win with European glory in Portugal.

Both teams boasted a 100% record coming into the game so it was going to be tough to pick a winner but the margin of victory in the Semi-Final we think led most people to think ManDem United may well be favourites. If they were they lived up to their favourites billing by taking an early lead through Ismet Sumbul's fourth goal of the day. Before the break, though, they were pegged back as Marc Hochar scored goal number 9 of the day. At half-time it was 1-1 and game on.

The French were well up for this and fired up. ManDem United in contrast were pretty calm in their approach. The second half began and it was all pretty even but the third goal of the game changed everything as Anthony Thomas put ManDem United 2-1 up. CFC A would have to fight back again and with limited time available pushed forward. They were caught on the break as Thomas made it 3-1. The team from Paris had no option but to chase the game and as they did so they left space at the back which ManDem United took full advantage of.

Thomas secured his hat-trick as it became 4-1 as CFC A started to look tired and disheartened. ManDem United showed no mercy and Thomas again made it 5-1. He was now up to 6 goals for the day and maybe Hochar was looking over his shoulder for the top goalscorer prize. There was still time for him to grab a 5 th and make the final score 6-1.

It was a sensational performance and victory from ManDem United who proved to be worthy winners of the 2012 Algarve Open. We also congratulate CFC A for a fine performance on the day, it was probably one half of football too much in the end, but they had the Runners-Up medals as a consolation.

Marc Hochar did indeed claim the top goalscorer award with a fine return of 9 goals for his efforts.

We send our congratulations to all the teams who participated in what was a great day's competition. The tournament had everything and we look forward to seeing you all again very soon.
