We were down to our final 4 teams in the Plate competition. The first Semi-Final would see Alea Iacta Est versus GSF Drunkerz. Alea Iacta Est came into the knock-out phase on a good run of form. 1 draw, 1 narrow defeat (1-0) and then 2-1 and 11-0 wins. Alea Iacta Est were used to competing in the Cup competition so would start as favourites here.

You never knew what you were going to get from GSF Drunkerz. They had won our 2015 Bratislava Fives title but also slipped into our third tier Trophy tournament at the 2019 Budapest Fives event. They also had Plate experience as they won the Plate at the 2014 Bratislava Fives. In fact the only team to win Cup, Plate and Trophy events in our tournaments.

It was Alea Iacta Est who lived up to their billing as favourites here as they nudged ahead, 1-0, in the opening half. Piotr Malenczak was the man to put the Polish team in the driving seat. The team from Warsaw continued to assert their authority in the second half as Artur Aksamit doubled the lead.

Piotr Malenczak was on target again to make it 3-0 as Alea Iacta Est were on course to reach their second final in as many tournaments with us. Michal Dzugoposzki put the finishing touches on a 4-0 win.

Amazingly, this was GSF Drunkerz's first knock-out defeat (in normal time) in their 6th tournament appearance. They had the three victories (Cup, Plate & Trophy) mentioned earlier plus 2x penalty shoot-out defeats in the past.

Who would join Alea Iacta Est in the Plate Final? The two teams set to do battle were Giggs Boson FC and FC Foreigntina.

This promised to be a high quality encounter – Giggs Boson FC had secured 9 points out of 12 in Group B and were in the Cup qualification places after 9 of the 10 games but only slipped out at the last moment and only on goal difference. They had the biggest points haul of any of the 4 teams in the Plate competition.

FC Foreigntina were in unfamiliar territory as they were used to playing their knock-out football in the Cup competition. However, they were yet to win a knock-out game in their 2 previous tournament appearances. A 2-1 defeat to eventual winners Northern Town at the 2018 Gdansk Tournament and a penalty shoot-out defeat to Alea Iacta Est last year in Warsaw. Could they see off Giggs Boson and set up a revenge match against Alea in the Plate Final?

It certainly looked on the cards when David Ingham put FC Foreigntina ahead. Giggs Boson FC quickly levelled things up at 1-1 though thanks to Pablo Martinez's third goal of the tournament. The two teams began the second half still level – who would be the hero to send his team into the Plate Final? Step forward Tom Killeen with his fifth strike of the day. His goal settled the tie as Giggs Boson FC returned to winning ways.

It meant FC Foreigntina were out for today. Giggs Boson FC had a final to prepare for.
