Who
would join Alea Iacta Est in the Plate Final?
The two teams set to do battle were Giggs Boson
FC and FC Foreigntina.
This
promised to be a high quality encounter – Giggs
Boson FC had secured 9 points out of 12 in Group
B and were in the Cup qualification places after
9 of the 10 games but only slipped out at the
last moment and only on goal difference. They
had the biggest points haul of any of the 4
teams in the Plate competition.
FC
Foreigntina were in unfamiliar territory as
they were used to playing their knock-out football
in the Cup competition. However, they were yet
to win a knock-out game in their 2 previous
tournament appearances. A 2-1 defeat to eventual
winners Northern Town at the 2018 Gdansk Tournament
and a penalty shoot-out defeat to Alea Iacta
Est last year in Warsaw. Could they see off
Giggs Boson and set up a revenge match against
Alea in the Plate Final?
It
certainly looked on the cards when David Ingham
put FC Foreigntina ahead. Giggs Boson FC quickly
levelled things up at 1-1 though thanks to Pablo
Martinez's third goal of the tournament. The
two teams began the second half still level
– who would be the hero to send his team into
the Plate Final? Step forward Tom Killeen with
his fifth strike of the day. His goal settled
the tie as Giggs Boson FC returned to winning
ways.
It
meant FC Foreigntina were out for today. Giggs
Boson FC had a final to prepare for.
