Group B was shaping up very nicely but there were two teams hoping to get their campaign up and running. GSF Drunkerz and Danish Crown were both looking for their first points of the day. GSF Drunkerz were also looking for their first goal of the day.

GSF Drunkerz (Svk) were making a sixth eurofootballfives.com appearance and a third at the Krakow Trophy. Their first two appearances had been on home soil at the Bratislava Fives where they have enjoyed success on both occasions. In 2014 they were victorious in the Plate competition before following this up by winning the Cup competition in 2015.

As mentioned earlier in the report they appeared at the 2016 & 2017 Krakow Trophy where they were unbeaten in 13 games in normal time. Only penalty shoot-outs prevented them from taking glory. Their most recent performance was at the 2019 Budapest Fives where they had a tough time in the group phase. They took 1 win and 1 draw from their six group games as they finished 6th of 7 teams to qualify for the third tier Trophy competition. In the Trophy they defeated FC Shaolin Badgers (Eng) 1-0 in the Semi-Final and then Argon'ze (Fra) 2-0 in the final. They became the first team in eurofootballfives.com history to have won in each of the Cup, Plate and Trophy sections of our tournaments.

They needed to get back to winning ways fast in this tournament but they were finding goals hard to come by. A closely contested opening period saw the two teams reach half-time level at 0-0.

GSF Drunkerz did break their duck in the second period. Stanislav Rakos grabbed the vital goal. Michal Horniak then doubled the lead as GSF Drunkerz found their form. Jan Okuliar then added to the tally to complete a 3-0 win.

The next match on Pitch B in Group B was a tasty prospect. It was a top of the table clash between Giggs Boson FC and PVDC Eindhoven. Currently Giggs Boson FC enjoyed their position at the summit courtesy of goals scored. Both teams had a goal difference of +6 but Giggs Boson had scored one more than their opposition. They would retain top position if they avoided defeat.

If either team could win this fixture they would open up a 3 point lead with one game to play and have one foot in the Cup competition. A win for Giggs Boson FC would represent their best ever start to a eurofootballfives.com tournament. A first half goal from Pablo Martinez made that a strong possibility.

It was a lead Giggs Boson would maintain until half-time. Could PVDC Eindhoven respond in the second half? Following a great win over Banerka you certainly thought they were capable of it. Their task got somewhat more difficult though as Tom Killeen extended the Giggs Boson lead to 2-0. PVDC Eindhoven now had a hill to climb.

If they had a hill to climb at 2-0 down they had a mountain to climb at 3-0 down. Tom Killeen added his second of the game and fourth of the tournament to clinch a stunning victory. Giggs Boson FC were bossing a high quality group with a 100% record.

Banerka were the final team to play their third fixture. With 3 points from 6 so far they were looking good but currently sat in third position. They were 6 points off top but had the opportunity to half that and join PVDC Eindhoven in second place. They had a strong goal difference so Cup qualification was certainly in their own hands.

Their opponents were GSF Drunkerz who came into the game on a high having secured their first win of the day. The Slovakian team had a mathematical chance of reaching the Cup if they could win this and hope each of PVDC Eindhoven & Banerka lost their final games. Goal difference would then come into it. GSF Drunkerz chances were slim but just about alive.

It was Banerka though who struck first. Dominik Krol's first of the tournament helping his side banish the memories of the previous game's defeat. At half-time the score remained 1-0 so the game was still delicately poised.

In the second half Banerka turned up the heat on their opponents. Jakub Sierraw scored his second of the day and not long later his third to make it 3-0 to Banerka. The destination of the points was no longer in doubt but that didn't stop Bartzomiej Wolak banging in a fourth and a fifth for good measure.

Banerka were back to winning ways and into 2nd in the table on goal difference.

8 games completed, 2 to go. We would soon have our Group B winners confirmed but it would depend on the results of games 9 and 10. PVDC Eindhoven were currently in third place but could join our current league leaders on 9 points with a win here. They were up against Danish Crown who were still searching for their first points of the day.

PVDC Eindhoven not only needed to win but needed a big win as their goal difference was the lowest amongst the leading teams (+3 compared to Giggs Boson +9 and Banerka +12). Given Danish Crown had so far lost 9-0, 5-2 & 3-0 this was arguably the game for PVDC Eindhoven to make their move.

The English team set about their task well. They opened up a 4-0 lead by half-time thanks to Saifeldin Affia, Matt Armstrong, Ahmed Noureldin and Saifeldin Affia again. Danish Crown got a goal back after the break thanks to Ramon Knetsch but it was only a brief respite. Saifeldin Affia completed his hat-trick, Matt Armstrong scored his second of the game and Boluaji Fagborun opened his personal account.

Final score 7-1. PVDC Eindhoven had sealed qualification to the Cup as the other top two teams were due to play each other in the Group B finale.

We went into Game 10 of Group B with Giggs Boson FC due to host Banerka and what a climax to Group B we had in store. Giggs Boson FC brought a 100% record to the table whilst Banerka had looked the team to beat in 9-0 & 5-0 wins but a slip against PVDC Eindhoven now had their Cup credentials in doubt. Let's have a look at what was at stake:

Giggs Boson: A draw or win would see them finish top of the table and qualify for the Cup. A defeat would see them slip from first to third on goal difference.

Banerka: A win would see them climb from third to first position and win Group B. A draw or defeat would see them finish in third place and progress to the Plate.

The pressure was on and it would be harsh on Giggs Boson FC would slip out of the Cup places after just one defeat when they had occupied the Cup qualification places from the very first game of Group B. However, that possibility looked on the cards from the moment Jakub Sierraw put Banerka ahead. The Polish team had the bit beneath their teeth and doubled the lead thanks to Bartzomiej Wolak. Jakub Sierraw then extended that lead to 3-0 and we were still in the first half.

It was a stunning opening period from Banerka and one from which Giggs Boson FC never fully recovered. They stopped the bleeding after the break but they were unable to put a dent in that 3-0 lead as Banerka sealed the win that would send them through to the Cup as Group B winners

It was a fantastic climax to the group phase (although Giggs Boson FC might not agree).
