It was judgement day in the Plate Group as in just two halves of football's time everything would be decided and we would know who are Plate champions would be.

We would also know who our Plate runners-up would be and it was likely to be one of Atlantic Star or Alphasights unless Wokingham FC could spring a surprise on the other pitch. First and foremost the two teams had to think about their own performance and do their own job before worrying about events on Pitch B. Atlantic Star found themselves in a similar to position at the end of Group A where they needed to win to get at least second but a draw would not be enough. A draw would see Alphasights secure runners-up spot and a win maybe better.

When these two teams met earlier in the day, Atlantic Star emerged as 2-0 victors and a repeat of that would do just nicely. At half-time we did get a repeat 2-0 scoreline but on this occasion it was Alphasights who held the lead courtesy of goals from Johannes Koch. Carsten Brinkmann made almost certain of the win when he put his team 3-0 up. Paul Costello pulled one back to make it 3-1 but the lead was three goals again soon after when Gregory Stalcup scored his third in two games. Final score, 4-1.

All eyes immediately went over to Pitch B as this result meant Alphasights needed Wokingham FC to win and win big (by four goals) for them to take the Plate title. They would have been disappointed though as they would learn that Irish Mbassy were 1-0 up with time ticking away. Jonathon Aguilar had given the home team a first-half lead that really decided the group. If Wokingham FC could find a way back it was always unlikely to be by the margin that Alphasights needed.

The game did indeed finish 1-0 to Irish Mbassy and they claimed the 2011 Krakow Trophy Plate victory with Alphasights collecting the Runners-Up medals. Our commiserations go to Atlantic Star and Wokingham FC who had put a great deal of effort in on a hot sunny day but sadly not everyone can claim glory. We hope to see you all on tour again soon.
