The 2010 Krakow Cup kicked off with a derby between the two FC Biermeister squads of FCB Helles v FCB Dunkles. The Biermeisters in their third eurofootballfives tournament had yet to come face-to-face……until now!

There was much at stake including bragging rights and whilst both teams wanted to win, defeat to their rivals would be unthinkable. As a result the game proved to be very close and at half-time we were where we started, level at 0-0.

As the game went on it looked increasingly likely we would be denied a goal until the man they call ‘The Pelican' (Dom Bouloux) gobbled up a late chance to claim victory for FCB Dunkles. Judging by the reaction and comments after the game, the win was worth far more than the 3 points it earned for the team.

Sherwood Forest began their eurofootballfives.com careers against home team Spasowskiego. The English team could not have got off to a better start as they took an early lead through Damien Pickup. Ben Simon doubled the advantage before the break with an effort from distance that crept under the Polish keeper (it could well have been Fabianski with an effort like that!).

Just before half-time Ben Bacon went close with a shot that went narrowly wide but early in the second period he put this right as he scored to make it 3-0. Sherwood Forest dominated throughout and were worthy victors with a win that took them to the top of the table.

The next fixture on Pitch A saw an all Polish encounter between Hutnik and Azmot. The Azmot team contained many of the winning Hutnik players from the 2010 Krakow Trophy in May earlier this year. They started well against their former club by stretching out a 3-1 lead by half-time with Pavel Sobczyk and Wojtek Banas (2) finding the net. Piotr Wojckek's goal for Hutnik kept them in striking distance and when Jurek Krzysztof pulled one back in the second half to make it 3-2 it was game on. The equalizer proved elusive as Azmot took the three points with a final score of 3-2.

The final two teams to get underway were Over Crusaders and Over Crusaders II in the second derby of the opening round. Talking to the squads before kick off there was a suggestion that the Over Crusaders II squad was the stronger. It was certainly looking that way at half-time as goals from Liam White and Andy Smith gave the men in the Dortmund shirts a 2-1 lead. Andrew Parker scored the goal for the first team squad. In the second half Over Crusaders II increased their lead to 3-1 through Chris Hussey and the points were in the bag.
