Over Crusaders II (Eng)

At 16.00 on the 7th August with 33 games done and dusted we had one more game to decide the destination of the 2010 Krakow Cup silverware. The two teams that had earned the right to contest this final were Azmot of Poland and Over Crusaders II of England.

Azmot were looking to become the second Polish team to win a eurofootballfives.com tournament in Krakow following Hutnik's success in the 2010 Krakow Trophy on the 22nd May. This Azmot side contained most of that Hutnik squad so were very familiar with how to win. Winning the group phase made them favourites but crucially the only game they lost was to their final opponents, Over Crusaders II.

Over Crusaders II had reached their first eurofootballfives.com Cup Final and with Over Crusaders making the Plate Final earlier in the day this was their second shot at glory in Krakow. They finished 3rd in a very close group but proved they could beat anyone in this tournament by winning 5 games already and were looking for a unique double against their Azmot.

When the game got underway it was Over Crusaders who took the lead just as they had in Round 7 of the group. Back in the group it was Andy Smith who scored the opening goal and he repeated that feat in the Final with his 9th goal of a fantastic tournament for him on the goalscoring front. Incidentally it was a goal that would see him finish joint second in the top goalscorer table.

Over Crusaders could not hang on to their one goal lead in the group phase and that was also to be the case here as the Final was rapidly turning into a carbon copy of the group match. On this occasion though it was Pawel Sobczyk who pounced to equalize and with the half-time whistle blowing at 1-1 we were no closer to finding out who our champions would be.

In the second period, again with shades of the group game, Azmot came from behind to take the lead against Over Crusaders II. This time it was Bartek Widla with his first goal of the day to edge the Polish team in front. At this stage we broke with the script from the group game though as the crucial 4th goal in this final went to Tomasz Armatys to make it 3-1 to Azmot.

This goal effectively sealed the destination of the trophy and provided an unassailable 2 goal lead. As Over Crusaders II pushed to come back there would inevitably be gaps at the back for a counter attack and when Szymou Zelasko's 7 th goal of the tournament made it 4-1 the game was well and truly over. The 4-1 scoreline as perhaps a bit harsh on Over Crusaders II but you could not really deny Azmot were worthy of their victory in this game and the tournament overall.

Our congratulations go to Azmot captain, Pawel Sobczyk, and his team on a great achievement. Our commiserations go to Over Crusaders II in the final but are worthy of many congratulations for a fine performance throughout the day.

There were individual honours for Wojtek Banas of Azmot who was crowned the tournament's top goalscorer with 11 goals in 9 games. We also take time to recognize the achievements of Plate Winners, FCB Helles, and Plate Runners-Up, Over Crusaders.

We send our congratulations to all the teams who participated in what was a great day's competition. The tournament had everything, was played in a superb spirit and we look forward to seeing you all again very soon. Have a great Summer!
