The
Plate Final would see JNJ Russia A versus JNJ
Russia B. If nothing else, we knew that both sets
of medals (winners and runners-up) and the Plate
trophy would be on the way back to Moscow but
which set of players would be wearing which set
of medals?
It
would also mean that we would have a new winner
of the Plate competition after Slavoj Consumer
(who were unable to join us today) had won this
title in both Prague 2012 and Budapest 2013.
This
would be the second occasion that JNJ Russia A
had played JNJ Russia B in the JNJ Euro Soccer
Tournament after they met in the Cup Semi-Finals
of Budapest 2013. On that occasion JNJ Russia
A won 3-0 en route to the title. It is perhaps
a surprise (given previous results in 2012 and
2013) that this is a Plate contest but for that
you have to praise the performance and skill levels
of the other teams in this tournament.
With
the game underway it was pretty tight stuff in
the first half and mid-way through the opening
period it was Rustam Kecherukov who broke the
deadlock with his sixth goal of the tournament.
From then, JNJ Russia A were on top for the rest
of the half although they were unable to extend
their lead. Half-time, 1-0.
At
the start of the second half JNJ Russia B equalised
through Alexey Gomer. Maybe the A Team were rattled
as it was not long before Alexander Betin put
JNJ Russia B 2-1 in front and they were certainly
in the ascendency. JNJ Russia A pushed forward
in search of an equaliser and as they did JNJ
Russia B made it 3-1 with virtually the last kick
of the game – fittingly it was Gaspar Arutyunov
who ended proceedings with his 10th goal of the
day. Full-time, 1-3.
We
offer huge commiserations to our Runners-Up, JNJ
Russia A. For today though, we present you the
2014 JNJ Euro Soccer Tournament Plate Winners
– JNJ Russia B.
