The
2015 Barcelona Fives Final would see Club Esportiu
Llefia play Alabama Hotpockets as Spain met Ireland.
Who was going to triumph? Let's preview the two
teams;
Club
Esportiu Llefia
The
Spanish team came into the game having won Group
B with 8 points. They had a record today of 4
wins, 2 draws and remained unbeaten. They scored
16 goals and conceded 9. They were bidding to
become the 5 th Spanish team to win the Barcelona
Fives and the first since 2012.
Alabama
Hotpockets
The
Alabama Hotpockets were playing in their second
eurofootballfives.com final having won the Plate
competition here in 2013 when they defeated JF
& The Pullbacks 1-0. Today, they had won 4,
drawn 1 (converted to a win on penalties and had
just the 1 loss. They included the great scalp
of Elcombe Old Boys in the Semi-Finals and were
bidding to become the 2nd Irish team to win a
eurofootballfives.com tournament in 2015 after
Saipan FC won in Mallorca.
With
the game underway it was Alabama Hotpockets who
took the early initiative. It was the Irish team
who made the early running and they won a succession
of corners. Alabama Hotpockets had all the possession
and the territory but Club Esportiu Llefia were
relatively comfortable in defence restricting
their opponents to shots from distance and they
were blocking most of them at source.
However,
it was Club Esportiu Llefia who were to take the
lead. On their first real attack the Alabama Hotpockets
goalkeeper made a good save from Daniel Martinez
Montes but Alfred Jimenez De Andres was on hand
to thrash home the rebound. The rest of the half
followed the same pattern as before the goal with
more Irish pressure but the Spanish were content
in defence.
In
the second half Alfred Jimenez De Andres put an
early chance over the bar but made amends moments
later when he put Club Esportiu Llefia 2-0 with
a clever finish that drew appreciative applause
from the watching galleries. It was not only an
important team goal but an important personal
goal that made Alfred Jimenez De Andres the top
goalscorer in the tournament with 9 goals.
At
this stage there was still time for Alabama Hotpockets
to recover but that was shortly to change when
Sergio Rodriguez Viejo smashed in a free-kick
for 3-0. Club Esportiu Llefia then showed no mercy
with Viejo adding his second for 4-0 before another
free-kick found the back of the net via the boot
of Daniel Martinez Montes and it was all over
at 5-0.
Our
commiserations go to the Alabama Hotpockets for
coming so close to a momentous and historic tournament
win. We congratulate Club Esportiu Llefia on a
first Barcelona Fives title and we are sure it
will not be their last! On a personal note, we
would like to congratulate our Top Goalscorer,
Alfred Jimenez De Andres of Club Esportiu Llefia,
with a great return of 9 goals in 7 games.
We
send our congratulations to all the teams who
participated in what was a great day's competition.
The tournament had everything and we look forward
to seeing you all again very soon.
