We started the second half of Group B with an intriguing tie ahead of us. We had Club Esportiu Llefia versus FC Sharks. The former currently shared the lead of Group B on 4 points and another win here would put them in pole position for Cup qualification. For FC Sharks, a draw followed by defeat left them with 1 point from 6 but a win here could put them level at the top – temporarily at least.

So there was all to play for going into the game and we had a thrilling first-half. In a group that had already given us two 3-3 draws we raced to 2-2 in this one in the opening period. Alberto Martin Montes and Alex Gonzalez Carretero scored for Club Esportiu Llefia whilst Joe Cridland and Luke Burnett bagged the goals for FC Sharks.

The knockout blow in this game was dealt by Alfred Jimenez De Andres who put Club Esportiu Llefia 3-2 up. FC Sharks were unable to find the elusive equalizer and claim their second draw in three games. As it was, Club Esportiu Llefia would secure the win and open up a three point lead at the top of Group B.

In the game above Club Esportiu Llefia had lay down the gauntlet to the chasing pack with victory. Freshers FC were their closest rivals and now had a chance to join the Spanish side back at the top of the table with a victory of their own. They would take on Prospe FC who had 1 draw and 1 defeat to their name to date.

Prospe FC were not looking like the same side that had claimed 4 wins out of 4 in the group phase 12 months ago but they looked more like their old selves in this game. They established a 3-1 lead at the break thanks to Enrique Serrano, David Pujol and then Carlos Perez. Oliver Rossiter scored for Freshers FC with a goal that kept them in the hunt going into the second half.

In the second half Oliver Rossiter scored his fifth of the tournament that put Freshers FC within striking distance at 3-2 but Prospe FC had just enough in the tank to see out the victory. It was a huge result in the context of the group as it put Prospe FC in joint second and ensured Club Esportiu Llefia would have the lead going into the final round of games.

Game 8 of Group B saw FC Atwood hoping to move up the table to chase Cup qualification. In their way stood the obstacle of FC Sharks. FC Atwood had a chance to move up from 4th to sole possession of 2nd place with a win that would put them just point off the lead. A draw would make it three teams on 4 points and leave the group wide open. From the perspective of FC Sharks, a win for them would put them on 4 points with Prospe FC and Freshers FC and a point ahead of FC Atwood – just 1 point would separate 2nd to 5th place. It was getting interesting in Group B!

With the exception of the second half against Freshers FC, FC Sharks had proved a match to each of their opponents so far taking a 3-3 draw with Prospe FC and only losing by the odd goal to the unbeaten table-toppers so far. They were equally competitive here as there was nothing to separate the two teams in the first half. The two sides exchanged goals between Gregg Bery (FC Atwood) and Chris Breen (FC Sharks).

There was still nothing to separate the two teams in the second half and there was to be no further addition to the score. The game finished 1-1 and would ensure FC Sharks finished in 5th position in Group B having played their 4 games. For FC Atwood, they were in a 3-team battle to try and secure 2nd place in Group B or even top spot if Club Esportiu Llefia let things slip.

Game 9 saw the start of the final showdowns in Group B – there were still 4 teams to decide their fate and conceivably any of them could finish in any of the positions from first to fourth place. It was now or never for these teams. The first two to step onto the pitch would be Club Esportiu Llefia and Prospe FC.

Club Esportiu Llefia held the advantage over the other teams by 3 points meaning they had the most insurance of the teams. They needed just one point to secure the Group B title and ensure safe passage into the Cup.

For Prospe FC, they just had to win and see where that result would take them. If they were to win it could conceivably be the top three on 7 points and then goal difference would settle the first three positions. That looked a distinct possibility after a first half that saw Enrique Serrano put Prospe FC 1-0 up.

The pressure had shifted to Club Esportiu Llefia who now had to score to go through. They needed a goal and a goal they got – it was Alfred Jimenez De Andres who stepped up to the plate with his fourth strike of the tournament and the most important to date. It meant his team had a 1-1 draw and Club Esportiu Llefia would be heading into the Cup as Group B champions.

Prospe FC knew that the Cup was beyond them and would most likely be playing in the Plate although if the final group game was a draw there was a possibility they could slip into the Trophy. These were fine margins in the Barcelona Fives.

To conclude Group B we had Freshers FC versus FC Atwood. With the above result it meant that neither team could win the group but there was still second place to play for and that could be enough to follow Club Esportiu Llefia into the Cup. If the game finished in a draw it would ensure these two teams would be playing Plate football as, although Freshers FC would finish second and FC Atwood third, a haul of 5 points would not be enough to go through to the Cup as one of the best second placed finishers. A defeat for either of these teams would mean third or fourth and then it coming down to goal difference with Prospe FC.

It was Freshers FC who forged ahead with the game underway and they lead by the odd goal in three going into the interval. Toby Porter bagged a first half brace in game #4 of Group B and he repeated the feat here in game #10. His goals outgunned the strike of Gregg Berry for FC Atwood.

With just a goal in it this game was far from over going into the second period but when Toby Porter completed his hat-trick to make it 3-1 the writing was on the wall for FC Atwood. Porter became the second Freshers FC man to score a hat-trick today and he went level with Oliver Rossiter on 5 goals as team top goalscorer.

The victory ensured that Freshers FC would finish in second place and in the end would prove good enough for them to be one of the three best second placed finishers courtesy of goal difference (edging out Naranjitos who had the same points haul). The result left FC Atwood in 4th position and they would qualify for the Trophy competition – the best 4th placed team would go through to the Plate and FC Atwood were level with Drunk Perfect (Group A) and FC Dad (Group C) on 4 points in that race. Drunk Perfect and FC Atwood both had a level goal difference nudging out FC Dad on -3. Drunk Perfect would claim that place in the Plate on goals scored – 9 compared to FC Atwood's 6.
