The
2011 Barca Fives Plate Final was to be contested
by two teams who had grown into this tournament.
Today would see both Kazakhstan FC and HMS Sultan
FC pick up medals but who would take the winners
medals and the coveted Plate trophy?
With
six games down and one to go the teams would need
to summon up one last effort to collect those
winners medals. After the early exchanges it was
HMS Sultan FC who took the first big step towards
glory as they established a 1-0 lead by half-time
courtesy of a Jason Biddulph goal. It was a lead
that gave them some freedom as it forced Kazakhstan
onto the attack and would inevitably lead to gaps
at the back.
Sultan's
Barry McCabe took full advantage to add a second
and a third with one of the strikes quite exquisite
and worthy of being scored in a Final. The goal
in question saw him majestically scoop the ball
over the advancing keeper which brought sighs
of admiration and applause from the watching gallery.
The Final was also witness to another superb strike
as Chris Belsten rounded off the scoring for HMS
Sultan as he chased a ball down the right wing
and hit it on the run first time into the far
corner. The keeper had no chance and it was Belsten's
third goal in as many games.
It
should be noted it was not all one way traffic
and Kazakhstan FC certainly played their part
in this Final (and the tournament as a whole)
but when the referee drew the game to a close
the final score was 4-1. Phillip Beeston scored
what was to prove a consolation with his 5 th
goal of the day – a fine personal return.
Our
congratulation to HMS Sultan FC and our commiserations
to Kazakhstan FC. It was our pleasure to host
you both and we look forward to seeing you again
next time. |
