The Cup Quarter-Finals saw the tournament's top 8 teams of the 15 team draw come head to head to see which team would emerge as 2011 Barca Fives champions. We had 5 nations still with a chance of grabbing glory so would it be England, France, Japan, Hungary or Spain celebrating at 5pm this evening? The tournament was wide open with 4 or 5 of the last 8 all with a very realistic chance of taking glory.

The first Quarter-Final saw the French team, Luminy Wolves, take on Spain's Futbol7. The 2009 winners would have bad memories of a Quarter-Final against Spanish opposition as this is the exact same stage they went out to Rapid Bosco Navas in the April 2011 tournament. Early on the contest was quite close and we wondered if history may repeat itself.

At half-time the two teams were locked together at 1-1 thanks to goals from Haikel Ben Khelifa for Luminy Wolves and Albert for Futbol7. In the second-half Luminy Wolves showed a determination not to bow out at the Quarter-Final stage again and turned in one of the most impressive halves of football in the whole tournament. Luminy Wolves scored 5 unanswered goals and powered to a 6-1 victory.

Haikel Ben Khelifa went on to complete a hat-trick, there was another goal from Allan Gosselin and a double for Sid-Ahmed Bouriche. Futbol7 must have wondered what hit them and sadly their tournament was over.

Cup Quarter-Final 2 saw Midshires FC in action against Drunk Perfect. Midshires FC had been the outstanding team in the morning group phase with 4 wins and a quality return of 18 goals without reply. How would they fare in this one?

Well, pretty well to be honest. Having spoken to the Drunk Perfect captain, they had gone into the game with a little trepidation but the Spanish team performed pretty well. Having finished 3rd in their group they were certainly the underdogs but underdogs have won before in our tournament and would win again – not today though.

Laszlo Szucs put the English team ahead with his sixth goal of the tournament before Antonio Rodrigues's 5th of the day made it 2-0 and that's how it finished. Midshires FC had ensured safe passage to the Semi-Finals and Drunk Perfect were reasonably pleased with their display so everyone was happy!

If everybody was happy in Quarter-Final 2 they weren't on Pitch D in Quarter-Final 3. The match between Group C winners El A Dees and Group B's Runner Up Rapid Bosco Navas was a niggly and feisty affair. Following the defeats of Futbol7 and Drunk Perfect, Rapid Bosco Navas were Spain's last hopes of glory.

Rapid Bosco Navas took a first half lead through Luinochio which they kept until half-time. The game was boiling away under the surface and was just about under control but the teams could well have been distracted from the football and instead focusing on little battles around the pitch. Rapid Bosco Navas then increased their lead to 2-0 through Sergio's second of the tournament.

It was a commanding lead but there was still time for El A Dees to hit back and they did when James Staz reduced arrears to 2-1. The sands of time ran out for the English team though and Rapid Bosco Navas were through. The result was a little bit of a surprise as El A Dees morning results had suggested they could go all the way – maybe at the next tournament.

Who would meet Rapid Bosco Navas in the second Semi-Final? Would it be FC Miracle of Hungary or Samurai Japan of…Japan?

This would be an interesting match as so far Samurai Japan had shown us a slick, fast past paced, attacking style compared with FC Miracle who had shown a stronger, more physical but no less skillful approach. If you put this match in Premier League terms it would probably be Arsenal versus Chelsea.

The style of FC Miracle seemed to be paying dividends as they scored the game's first goal via Janos Gal. Zoltan Kedves made it 2-0 to FC Miracle and they were well on the way to the Semi-Finals. The 2-0 lead proved sufficient and the FC Miracle defence which has only conceded four goals in four games remained strong and the victory was complete.

It was the end of the road for Samurai Japan. We very much look forward to their next tournament challenge…wherever their travels may take them.
