The
2011 Algarve Open Plate Final was to be contested
by two teams who had reached finals in Krakow
– in June's Krakow Trophy. On that occasion New
Milton Eagles' Old Boy squad were victorious in
the Plate competition and Pimp My Side were picking
up the Runners-Up Medals in the Cup competition.
With that history and a superior set of results
on the day you would make Pimp My Side favourites
but Eagles UnAthletic had not read the script.
The
Eagles took a first half lead through Shahed Miah
and took that advantage into the second half.
Could Pimp My Side turn it around? Chris Black
scored to put his side back into the game but
it was not enough as Chris Payne scored Eagles
UnAthletic second of the final. That's how the
match ended and Eagles UnAthletic had emerged
victorious.
The
result meant that New Milton Eagles were celebrating
glory for the second successive season with another
European trophy to take home. They could add the
2010 Algarve Open Plate Trophy to their 2010 Krakow
Trophy Plate award in a trophy cabinet that must
be filling up nicely.
Our
congratulations go to Eagles UnAthletic on a fine
performance. They put a poor group record behind
them to go unbeaten in three successive games
when it really mattered to seal glory. Our condolences
go to Pimp My Side FC who collect runners-up medals
for the second year in a row. Hopefully they will
be picking up winners medals next time. |
