Game 6 of Group A was the mouth-watering prospect of Athletico Do Hollande versus FCB Helles. Both teams had 100% records and both teams knew a win here would guarantee Cup football this afternoon. A draw would put them in healthy contention but a defeat would give them work to do in their final fixture.

When the referee kicked us off it was Athletico Do Hollande who got into their stride the quicker as Giorgio Fraenk gave them a 1-0 lead. 1-0 became 2-0 when Toufik Haddouchi scored and at half-time FCB Helles had it all to do. Up stepped Florian Henning with goal number 5 but his nearest challenger in the top goalscorer charts, Jerrel Fraenk scored his 5th and 6th of the campaigns in the second half. Once you add Youssef El Ouasghiri's goal to the equation and you have a 5-1 victory for Athletico Do Hollande. It was a solid win and put the team from Amsterdam on 9 points. Already, they were the talk of the tournament as the team to beat.

For FCB Helles, they had to put this result behind them and concentrate on their final fixture.

Aston Carter took on Pimp My Side FC in the next match on Pitch A with both teams looking to break their points duck. With confidence usually shaky at the foot of a group table the first goal in such games usually has the twin effect of not only putting the team 1-0 up but giving them the impetus to kick on for victory. The first goal in this game came from Mark Halling to give Pimp My Side FC a 1-0 lead at the break.

In the second half they kicked on and made it 3-0 through Mark Halling again and Chris Black. It was an overdue first win of the day for Pimp My Side FC but a result that put them in a strong position to make the Plate whereas Aston Carter were looking at the Wooden Spoon. You have to feel for Aston Carter who were making their eurofootballfives debut and, within the context of a strong tournament overall, looked like they had drawn the proverbial Group of Death.

Aguas Do Algarve had the opportunity in their next game to draw level with FCB Helles in 2nd place in Group A. FCB Helles needed a win to ensure Cup football, a draw would leave them sweating on the Portuguese team's last game and a defeat would leave them vulnerable and probably playing Plate football.

Aguas Do Algarve had been extremely competitive so far with just two goals in their games to date – one for them, one against. There was yet to be a goal in the first half….until now. If you were a Portuguese supporter it would be you who was cheering as Bernardino Agostinho gave his team a 1-0 lead. The Portuguese defence was strong and it would take a good performance for FCB Helles to comeback. They did have 5-goal Florian Henning up their sleeve but even with that the Biermeisters could not find a way past Jorge Matias in the Aguas Do Algarve.

The 1-0 victory meant that Aguas Do Algarve jumped above FCB Helles on goal difference, both teams on 6 points. FCB Helles had to hope Aston Carter would do them a favour in the final game to make the Cup.

Game 9 saw the all-conquering Athletico Do Hollande with 3 wins out of 3 meet Pimp My Side FC who had just claimed their first victory. Athletico Do Hollande had a 100% record to maintain but for Pimp My Side FC they needed a point to guarantee a place in the Plate and a win, combined with an Aston Carter win in Game 10, would actually see them rise to 2nd position. Their task would not be easy though.

The game started well for them and whilst they were unable to score against the Dutch they kept it tight at the back and gave themselves every chance if they could just find a goal. In the end, they could not find the goal they desired although they did become the first team to take points off the Dutch since Chingford Athletic defeated them 3-1 last year. Looking at the game in isolation Pimp My Side FC must have been content with their performance and a good point. In the context of the group it meant they were guaranteed 4th place and a place in the Plate. Athletico Do Hollande, courtesy of their point, had secured the Group A title.

The final game of Group A was Aston Carter FC looking for their first win against Aguas Do Algarve needing just a point to finish 2nd in the group and make the Cup for the second successive year. Aguas games had generally been low scoring and when Matt Melia scored first for Aston Carter we thought it may open the game up as Aguas sought the equalizer that would send them through to the Cup.

In fact, closer scrutiny of the league table meant they could afford to lose by three goals and still qualify due to the heavy nature of FCB Helles's defeat against Athletico Do Hollande. Whilst Aguas Do Algarve tried and failed to get on the scoresheet they never looked like leaking the goals that would prevent them finishing second.

It was a great performance and a great result for Aston Carter. They must be applauded for fighting to the end and finishing the group with a quality win. In other tournaments, their performance would certainly have seen them finish higher than 5th and we hope to see them in eurofootballfives action again when hopefully they avoid the dreaded Group of Death.

Aguas Do Algarve had a Cup Quarter-Final ahead of them to prepare for.
