12 games down, 3 to go. Group A was still very tight and there was still a lot to be decided at the top – Group winners, Cup qualification and Plate qualification places. First up in Round 5 we had Alea Iacta Est versus Sutton on Tour.

Alea Iacta Est had secured 2 wins and 1 draw from their opening 3 games before defeat to The A Team in their previous fixture. It meant they were 3 points off top in joint second. It was still possible for 3 teams to finish joint top (Alea IActa Est & Boca Seniors Warsaw both win, Yac Club lose) so goal difference could well be crucial to decide the 2 Cup qualification places and the group winners.

Sutton on Tour knew they would definitely be out following FC Dad's point in the previous game meaning they would finish 6th regardless and maybe that had a bearing on this game. They had been much more competitive the last two games with narrow defeats (both 1-0) including to the league leaders. You could certainly argue they deserved points on the board.

Alea Iacta Est were in determined fashion though. First half goals from Michal Sklodowski and Jakub Szlezingier put them in control. After the break a double from Krzystzof Kurzeja, a second goal from Michal Sklodowski and a strike from Piotr Plichta ensured a 6-0 win. The biggest win of the day.

The final game for The A Team was against FC Dad. The French team had enjoyed a mixed morning so far with 2 wins and 2 defeats. Alea Iacta Est's win above meant that the Cup was now beyond them. To reach the Plate competition they merely needed to avoid defeat against FC Dad to finish 4 th (at worst) but a win could help them up into third place.

For FC Dad, the highest they could finish was on 7 points which could mean third place and the Plate depending on other results but 4th place would be guaranteed as they would leapfrog The A Team in the table. A draw or defeat would see them finish 5th and go into the Wooden Spoon.

We reached half-time level at 0-0 with all still to play for. For much of the second half it was The A Team who were pushing forward and going for the win despite the fact they only needed to avoid defeat. FC Dad were defending resolutely and increasingly it looked like The A Team could be caught on the break. In fact we said as much whilst watching and within moments Graham Dodds was left free up front and he duly applied a tidy finish to win it late on for FC Dad.

What a great way for FC Dad to sign off the group phase. Plate qualification was assured.

To complete Group A we had Yac Club versus Boca Seniors Warsaw.

The equation was relatively simple for Yac Club, avoid defeat and they would be crowned Group A champions. If they were to lose it would be complicated though as both these teams and Alea Iacta East would finish on 10 points and it would come down to goal difference. Alea Iacta Est were sitting pretty on +10 so likely to top the table. Yac Club were +3 and Boca Seniors Warsaw 0. So, Boca Seniors Warsaw would need to win by two goals climb above Yac Club and into the Cup.

Yac Club had been in fine form today and that form continued in the first half here. So far Dave Netherway had scored all of his team's goals. The fun was shared around here though with Chris Proffitt and Connor Pasty both opening their accounts for the day.

It meant that Boca Seniors Warsaw needed to score four in the second half to climb above their opponents to reach the Cup. It would be a tough ask against a team who had only conceded once all day. Looking over their shoulders though, defeat for Boca Seniors Warsaw would mean dropping a place to fourth position. After the break Jonathan Kraayenbrink scored his third of the tournament to reduce the deficit to 2-1. Time was against them to reach the Cup but one more goal would earn Boca Seniors Warsaw a draw and secure third place. An equalizer proved elusive though as Yac Club ran out 2-1 winners.

Congratulations to Yac Club who won Group A and to Alea Iacta Est who would join them in the Cup. FC Dad moved above Boca Seniors Warsaw into third but both would qualify for the Plate. The A Team would reach the Wooden Spoon* but Sutton on Tour were out.

* It later transpired the Wooden Spoon would not take place as Red Cow Belgrade withdrew from the tournament after the group phase due to injuries.
