Alea Iacta Est (Pol)

It was Cup Final time in Poland. After 30 games of football we came down to the most important of them all. Game 31, the match that would determine the 2020 Warsaw Tournament champions. Who would become our first ever winners in the Polish capital?

This is how we lined-up:

Yac Club (Eng)

Best appearance to date: 2019 Amsterdam Fives Plate Final

Record today: Played 6, Won 4, Drawn 2, Lost 0.

Goal difference today: 6-2

Current unbeaten run: 6 games.

Today's top goalscorer: Dave Netherway (4)

Clean sheets: 4

Alea Iacta Est (Pol)

Best appearance to date: 2019 Gdansk Tournament Cup Semi-Final

Record today: Played 6, Won 3, Drawn 2, Lost 1.

Goal difference today: 13-3

Current unbeaten run: 2 games.

Today's top goalscorer: Krzystzof Kurzeja (3), Piotr Plichta (3)

Clean sheets: 3

These two teams had met earlier today in Group A and played out a 1-1 draw. Given how tight the games have been in the knock-out stage today, you would have to think that a draw would be the odds-on favourite for this.

Yac Club were competing in the Cup competition for the first time having reached the Plate Quarter-Finals (twice), Plate Semi-Finals, Plate Final and Trophy Semi-Finals before. It was a great performance today and they were the only unbeaten team so thoroughly deserved to be here. Alea Iacta Est had gradually been getting closer to glory. At the 2018 Gdansk Tournament they reached the Cup Quarter-Finals, at 2019 they reached the Cup Semi-Finals and today the Cup Final – could they crown that progression with a title?

The game kicked off and was an intriguing contest from the very start. The two teams were well matched and attacked/defended in equal measure. You couldn't really say which team was on top and chances were at a premium but not for the want of trying. Sometimes we have 0-0's where it is midfield stalemate but both teams were trying to win this final and it was end to end.

The second half kicked off with the teams still level and the pattern of the game generally continued. The deadlock was broken and it was perhaps no surprise that is was Dave Netherway with his fifth goal of the tournament. He drew level with Joao Puga at the top of the top goalscorer charts. With goals at a premium, this strike was like gold dust. Alea Iacta Est now had their work cut out against a team with 4 clean sheets already. That would soon change to 5 clean sheets as the game finished 1-0.

Please spare a thought for Alea Iacta Est – they are getting closer to that first eurofootballfives.com title! If the sequence continues it should be at their next tournament with us. Our sincere commiserations to them on this occasion.

Our congratulations go to Yac Club on their maiden eurofootballfives.com victory. Yac Club Warsaw, Warcame, Warconquered!
