We started the final round of games with FC Biermeisters against SV Zoo. FC Biermeisters came into the game on the back of their first point on the pitch since the opening games. SV Zoo's form was heading in the other direction – they were joint top at the end of Round 4 but two successive defeats had seen them slip to 4th in the table. They could slip to 5th if results went against them again.

FC Biermeisters, with their Germanic name, seemed to relish the occasion against their German opposition. Some of the Biermeisters team had spent time in Germany during their university days so there was a touch of added poignancy to this fixture.

FC Biermeisters were leaving their best form until last and they took the lead through Dominic Bouloux. After the re-start Martin hunt made it 2-0 and Ben Littlefield made it 3-0. All three men were claiming their first goals of the tournament. It was a great way to sign off for them with 4 points out of a possible 6 and they would go into their next tournament on a run of two games unbeaten.

For SV Zoo it was a disappointing run of form to finish the day but their form from the first half of the tournament had seen them do enough to finish in fourth position. They would have a chance to correct their form soon enough as they are due to take part in June's Berlin Fives.

New Milton Eagles would play their last game of the day against Prague's GBS Reds. For the English team it was a chance to move into the top half of the table with a victory. For GBS Reds, the result was meaningless in terms of position as they would finish 7th regardless but there was much to play for in terms of pride and could they finish on a high?

The answer was yes as they scored a goal in each half to finish the tournament on a positive note. Marco Lepee-Rivero scored the first and Josef Salatek scored the second as he ran the length of the field on the counter-attack and beat the last defender before placing a good finish into the bottom corner and seal the points. Well done to GBS Reds.

Perhaps it was a game too far for New Milton Eagles. They would finish 5th and it was great to see them all on tour again.

Next on the fixture list was Al Kaloida versus Csabagyongye. It was a 3-0 walkover win for the latter and put them onto 16 points and top of the table pending the forthcoming final match of the tournament. Csabagyongye would have to wait and see if their day's earlier exploits would be enough for glory.

The 28th and final game of the Plate Champion of Champions was Saipan FC versus Alphasights. All 27 games so far had lead us to a thrilling finale. What were the permutations on this result;

Alphasights win: They would be champions. Csabagyongye would be runners-up.

A draw: Csabagyongye would be champions. Alphasights would be runners-up.

Saipan FC win: Csabagyongye would be champions. Saipan FC would be runners-up.

Alphasights were on a superb run of form. Having lost their first game they had won 5 successive games including against their closest challengers. If they could extend this run to six games they would be crowned champions. It would be no simple task though as Saipan FC were the form side over the last couple of Rounds winning both fixtures 4-0.

It was the Irish who struck first through Cormac McLoughlin and at half-time it was 1-0 to them. At this stage they would be collecting medals in the presentation and it would be heartbreak for Alphasights.

In the second half Jonathan Patterson struck back for Alphasights and it was game on again. At 1-1 there was a frantic and frenetic atmosphere as Alphasights went all out for the win. They did everything they could to breakdown the Saipan FC defence but there was no way through and the game finished level at 1-1 but the biggest winners were Csabagyongye.

The Hungarian team had won the title by the narrowest of margins – goal difference. They were +11 compared to Alphasight's +10. That Gergely Koczka goal in Round 6 was proving to be the difference.

To go back to our athletics metaphor again…Alphasights had been tucked in behind the leaders going into the final bend and hit the front on the back straight but Csabagyongye hit back and pipped their opponents on the line. It could not have got much closer!

We congratulate Csabagyongye for a fine achievement as they picked up their second eurofootballfives.com trophy. We also congratulate Alphasights on a great day's performance and for claiming the Runners-up medals. We thank all teams for competing in this special invitational event and hope to see you back on tour again very soon.
