FC
Biermeisters began Round 3 against Csabagyongye.
The English team had suffered defeat last time
out after a solid point. Csabagyongye also started
with a point but kicked on with a win in their
last game.
Having
won the 2012 Budapest Fives Plate here 12 months
ago, the home team were taking a liking to this
ground and building on their promising start.
The Hungarian team produced the best performance
of the competition to date as they scored two
goals in each half to see off the Biermeisters.
There
was a hat-trick for Peter Dovak and a second goal
of the tournament for David Kemeny as Csabagyongye
hit the top of the table with 7 points from a
maximum 9 on offer. They were emerging as one
of the contenders for this title.
It
was the turn of Alphasights to collect their
3-0 walkover win over Al Kaloida. It lifted
them up to 6 points and would have been just
what the doctor ordered having lost their opening
game.
Next
on Pitch D was GBS Reds versus Saipan FC. Both
teams were looking for their first points on the
field of play and having secured an opening game
point GBS Reds were now struggling a bit.
Saipan
FC had put defeat in their last fixture behind
them and came out the blocks all guns blazing
in this one. Julian Cornelius was the hero of
the hour with both goals in a great first half
that saw them with a good lead at the break. After
the interval they saw the game out and collected
all 3 points. Saipan FC joined a cluster of teams
at the top separated by just 2 points between
1st and 5th. GBS Reds had curiously gained a place
to 6th via goal difference.
To
complete Round 3 was SV Zoo versus New Milton
Eagles. Both teams were unbeaten to date and had
an opportunity to go top with the right result
in this one. A draw would keep it tight at the
top.
As
we'd seen for most of these games there was very
little to choose between the two sides and we
went into half-time level at 0-0. We were to see
goals in the second period but still the teams
were unable to be split asunder. There was a goal
for SV Zoo's Stefan Fricke-Liebig and for Julian
Smith – the New Milton Eagles captain.
The
game finished 1-1 and SV Zoo joined Csabagyongye
on top and a goal behind the Hungarians on goal
difference. New Milton Eagles, although unbeaten,
were in 5th position.
