New Milton Eagles took on FC Biermeisters in the first game of Round 6. The Eagles chances of winning the tournament were now slim – they needed to win their last two games and hope the teams above them all slipped up and results went exactly to plan. For FC Biermeisters there was no chance of taking the title but they would wish to finish as high as possible. They could cement 6th place here and then look to build on that in the final round.

New Milton Eagles had a 4-point advantage over their opponents in the table though and that advantage showed in the first half as Craig Chandler gave New Milton Eagles the lead. A win here would see them rise from 5th place to 3rd position.

FC Biermeisters were not to let New Milton Eagles have it all their way though as Alex Lydall equalized in the second-half. Alex Lydall was a relatively late addition to the FC Biermeisters squad and he was paying off his call up with the goal. The goal was enough to earn FC Biermeisters a draw and see them up to 5 points.

It was a blow to New Milton Eagles who remained in 5th and all the teams above them still to play in Round 6. For FC Biermeisters it meant they would be at least 6th going into the last group of fixtures but it also meant that 6th was their highest potential finish as they were still 4 points behind the Eagles directly above them.

It was third versus fourth when SV Zoo met Saipan FC. Realisitcally these teams needed to win their last two games so stand a chance of picking up medals today. SV Zoo were joint leaders until recently and needed to bounce back quickly to get their tournament challenge back on track.

Saipan FC had come into the game after a morale-boosting 4-0 win last time out and they were on the goal trail again. This game should have been a very tight fixture according to the league table but, in scoreline at least, it was a one sided contest. Saipan FC were banging in the goals for fun as Julian Cornelius hit goal #3 for him before Cormac McLoughlin and Joey Fisher increased the lead to 3-0 at half-time.

We mentioned during Alphasights last game that goal difference could well be crucial and the margin of this victory was closing the goal difference gap on Alphasights and Csabagyongye above them. They would be moving above SV Zoo into 3rd place and they were on the charge. Julian Cornelius scored his fourth goal of the tournament and Saipan FC's fourth of the tournament to complete the victory.

The Irish team had won their last two games in style, scoring 8 goals and Richie Magnier keeping two clean sheets. They would go into the final round full of confidence.

GBS Reds collected their three points for the 3-0 walkover win against Al Kaloida which made the table look healthier for them. It meant they were 1 point off 6th position with a game to play.

Csabagyongye were involved in the biggest game of the tournament in Round 5 with a top of the table clash against SV Zoo. They passed that test and the pressure was cranked up again with what was now an even more important game. The top two would battle it out head-to-head for the lead in this group. The stakes could not be higher.

It was all in Csabagyongye's own hands – if they could win this they would seal the title and open up a 4 point lead with just 3 more on offer after this. In fact, a draw would be good enough as they had their walkover win versus Al Kaloida to come in Round 7. It was therefore imperative that Alphasights won to keep this competition alive.

Alphasights were well up for this and it showed on the pitch. They took a lead in the first half through Dean Prosinecka and the “live league table” would show Alphasights moving into the lead.

Csabagyongye were unbeaten so far today and they needed to keep that run going to clinch the Plate Champion of Champions title. Gergely Koczka struck for Csabagyongye but it would be a mere consolation (in the context of this game anyway – it would prove more pivotal later as we would see) as second goal from Prosinecka in the game and a second tournament goal for Friedberg secured a 3-1 win.

It was a mammoth victory for Alphasights and, to use our athletics metaphor, Alphasights had hit the front half-way down the back-straight.
