Veterans
In
the Veterans section, we had 20 teams from England,
France, Hungary, Moldova, Poland, Scotland,
Spain and Wales all assembled to battle it out
for the title of 2023 Mallorca Fives champions.
Defending
champions and 2017 winners FC Mahou were pre-tournament
favourites but they met their match at the Cup
Quarter-Finals when Duktil Balear drew 3-3 with
them and knocked them out on penalties. Wins
over FC Miracle (Hun) in the Semi-Final and
FC Poloboc (Mda) in the Final saw the local
team celebrate glory.
In
the Plate tournament there was glory for Polonia
Limerick who also won the 2022 Barcelona Fives
Plate. They defeated ACE & The Swagmen in
the Plate Final who were also runners-up at
the 2022 Lisbon Veterans Tournament.
Open
Age
In
the Open Age section all eyes were on Ecuador
100% who were aiming to become the first team
to win three consecutive titles at the same
event. They suffered an early setback losing
1-0 to Polonia Limerick in their opening game
but then went on a winning run to the Cup Final
where they met Polonia Limerick again and gained
their revenge.
In
the Plate section it was France versus Spain
in the Final as World Pinteur overcame their
penalty shoot-out hoodoo to win both their SF
and Final on spot kicks. They defeated Urbansport
who were runners-up for the second year running
having lost to Bayern Badonde at the same stage
12 months ago.
A
big thank you to all 30 teams for what was a
superb weekend. See you all soon.
