The
2015 Budapest Fives Plate Final was to be contested
by two teams who had grown into this tournament.
Today would see both Budapest Celtic Tigers and
Naranjitos pick up medals but who would take the
winners medals and the coveted Plate trophy?
With
five games down and one to go the teams would
need to summon up one last effort to collect those
winners medals. The teams were no strangers to
European Finals with us:
As
recently as October 2014 Naranjitos had been successful
in Plate competition as they lifted the Plate
trophy aloft at the 2014 Barcelona Fives. If they
were successful here they would become the 7th
team in eurofootballfives.com history to have
multiple Plate victories.
For
Budapest Celtic this was their seventh eurofootballfives.com
Final and fourth in the Plate competition. The
Tigers reached the Budapest Fives Cup Finals losing
2-0 on penalties to 4-times winners Olympic Phil
Babb (after a 0-0 draw) in 2011 and lost 5-1 ABC
United of Romania in 2012. In 2013 they took the
2013 Krakow Trophy with a 2-1 win over The A Team
of France. In 2014 they reached the Plate Final
on 3 occasions and lost every single one as the
Tigers lost 4-1 to Saipan FC (Ire) in Valencia,
the Panthers lost 3-2 to FC Radbroke (Eng) here
in Budapest and the Lions lost on penalties (after
a 2-2 draw) to GSF Drunkerz (Svk) in Bratislava.
They would feel they were due a win.
Naranjitos
had played the Tigers stable-mates (or should
that be zoo-mates) the Budapest Celtic Lions in
the group phase and were held 0-0. Here in the
Plate Final it was Miguel Angel Escutia Lozano
who broke the deadlock and what a time to score
his first goal of the day. It looked like it would
be 1-0 at half-time but a good finish from Miguel
Angel Escutia Lozano again made it 2-0. What a
time to score his second goal of the day!
Budapest
Celtic Tigers had a massive job on their hands
to avoid a fourth Plate runners-up finish and
a fourth final defeat on home soil. Could they
turn it around? Naranjitos had kept two clean
sheets in a row before this game and the Spanish
defence was looking strong here too.
The
Plate Final was then settled as a Naranjitos counter
attack saw Jorge Bayer Saez break free and as
the Hungarian goalkeeper came charging out to
meet him Bayer Saez coolly slotted home from the
edge of the area to make it 3-0 and game over.
The Spanish had beaten Red Cow Belgrade 2-0 in
their Barcelona Fives Plate Final and now had
a 3-0 success here. They had the Plate trophy
and their winners medals to take back home to
Valencia.
Take
nothing away from Budapest Celtic Tigers though
who had performed well during the day but just
ran out of steam and into a superior opposition
on the day. As always the Celtic teams proved
great value with their appearance. It was our
pleasure to host you both and we look forward
to seeing you again next time.
