Csabagyongye (Hun)

As we went past the half-way mark in Group C results were getting more and more important as games remaining became less and less. It was top versus 4th as Meglepetes met Csabagyongye in the next fixture.

Csabagyongye made their debut in the 2011 Budapest Fives and almost created history when they were only seconds away from knocking Olympic Phil Babb out in the Cup Semi-Finals and preventing them retaining their (then) 100% record of 4 Cup wins. They then went on to compete in the 2011 Valencia Fives where they won Group A with a 100% record. It was a surprise to see them go out in the Cup Quarter Finals in a 9-goal thriller, 6-3 to Spanish side Rollert FS. In the 2012 Budapest Fives they played their knock-out football in the Plate competition and they went all the way to the final which they won 4-2. In 2013 they reached the Plate Semi-Finals of the Lisbon Tournament and won the Plate Champion of Champions Tournament in Budapest. Two more appearances in 2014 saw them reach the Cup Semi-Finals here at the Budapest Fives. On the road in Barcelona they won Group D of the Barcelona Fives with a 100% record. They were drawn against Monexy of the Ukraine (the eventual winners) and went out 5-1. This year's tournament is their 8 th eurofootballfives.com appearance.

Between them, these two teams were unbeaten with Meglepetes winning both their games and Csabagyongye drawing theirs. At kick-off Meglepetes had a 5 point lead over their opponents but it was Csabagyongye who scored first. David Kemeny scored the only goal of the game and earned Csabagyongye a huge and vital victory.

Game 7 was The Spider Mans & Eagle versus Budapest Celtic Pumas. The former were unbeaten with 1 win and 1 draw. The latter were seeking out their first victory with 2 defeats to date.

The prize for The Spider Mans & Eagle if they could claim victory was to go top of Group C following Meglepetes' slip up in the fixture above. The English team looked in unforgiving mood and were determined to take the opportunity afforded to them.

The Spider Mans & Eagle raced into a 4-0 lead and it was only half-time! There were two goals for Sam A'Court and one each for Ryan Stevens and Nick Whateley. After the break maybe The Spider Mans & Eagle took their foot of the gas or maybe Budapest Celtic Pumas were just improved but the home team came back into it. Jacob Junior and then Markus Varga reduced the deficit to 4-2.

The damage was already done in the first half though as The Spider Mans & Eagle took all 3 points and went top of the tree.

It was looking like any one of three teams who would win Group C as Csabagyongye, Meglepetes and The Spider Mans & Eagle were all vying for top spot. Csabagyongye had the chance to further their claim when they met Budapest Celtic Pumas.

A win for Csabagyongye would move them joint top on 7 points and mean just 1 point would separate the top three teams. They were strong favourites against a Pumas team that had lost all three games to date. The game went as expected with the opening half belonging to the team that was upwardly mobile. A Peter Dovak double put them 2-0 up at the break.

There was no looking back for Csabagyongye as they increased their advantage in the second half as the Pumas were looking a tired, depleted and spent force. Soling and Engin making the final score 4-0.

Csabagyongye were well on course for Cup qualification.

Game 9 of Group C promised to be the pivotal game of Group C as The Spider Mans & Eagle took on Meglepetes. Before kick-off the table looked like:

The Spider Mans & Eagle 2-1-0 9-4 7

Csabagyongye                   2-1-0 7-2 7

Meglepetes                         2-0-1 8-3 6

It couldn't be much tighter. We expected a close and tight contest but it was Meglepetes who raced into a 3-0 lead in the first half. Bence Szalontai scored the first two before Kristof Lennart gave the home team breathing space.

The Spider Mans & Eagle had come back from 2-0 down against Csabagyongye but any hope of a comeback here was extinguished when Richard Balogh made it 4-0 to Meglepetes. The icing on the cake was another Balogh goal to make it 5-0.

It was a result that put Meglepetes top of Group C but would it be enough for the group win? The Spider Mans & Eagle would also have to wait and see if their points tally of 7 would see them through as one of the best 3rd placed teams.

With 9 games down there was just one more to go in Group C as Fleet Street Elite FC took on Csabagyongye. For Csabagyongye, a defeat by less than 5 would see them 2nd , a draw would see them 2nd but a win would see them crowned Group C champions. If so, this would be their 6th group win in eurofootballfives.com competition after 2011, 2014 Budapest Fives, 2013 Plate Champion of Champions, 2011 Valencia Fives and 2014 Barcelona Fives.

Fleet Street Elite FC had nothing to play for in terms of league positions as they would finish in 4th regardless of result. They still had pride to play for, the chance of a major scalp and also momentum going into the Plate.

These two teams had met before at the 2013 Lisbon Tournament and on that occasion the Hungarian team won 4-0. It looked like it would be a repeat as Csabagyongye forged a 3-0 lead at half-time as Koczka, Nemesi and Dovak all found the back of the net. There was to be no further addition to the score after the break and Csabagyongye had the win they needed.

Csabagyongye would go through to the Cup as Group C champions with 10 points out of a possible 12. Fleet Street Elite FC would qualify for the Plate.
