We
had 8 teams whittled down to 4 as we reached the
Semi-Final stage. We would be guaranteed a Hungary
versus Overseas Cup Final. The first Cup Semi-Final
saw two Hungarian teams, the second saw two travelling
teams vying for a place in the 2015 Budapest Fives
Cup Final.
Those
two Hungarian teams were Csabagyongye and Meglepetes.
Csabagyongye were yet to reach a Cup Final in
our tournaments but they had come very close –
in 2011 they were seconds away from defeating
Olympic Phil Babb (who went on to win their 4
th successive tournament) before a last gasp equalizer
and 2-0 loss on penalties. Last year it was a
1-0 defeat to Argentina. They have of course won
the 2012 Budapest Fives Plate and 2013 Plate Champion
of Champions.
Meglepetes
had played in two previous Sem-Finals (both in
the Plate) and were unbeaten in regulation time
with a 3-0 win over BBFC2 in 2013 and a 3-3 draw
versus Budapest Celtic Panthers in 2014 before
a 3-2 loss on penalties.
These
two teams met in Group C this morning and on that
occasion Csabagyongye came out on top, 1-0. It
was the same scoreline that saw Csabagyongye enter
half-time in the ascendency here. Soling firing
in off both posts to put Csabagyongye on course
for victory.
In
the second half Meglepetes fought back and scored
only the third goal in almost six games against
their opponents. Bence Szalontai's sixth goal
of the day making it 1-1. That was how if finished
– we would need penalties to decide it.
Neither
team would have happy memories of shoot-outs with
the 2011 loss for Csabagyongye and the 2014 loss
for Meglepetes. One of these teams would set that
record straight, the other would suffer double
the pain.
It
would be Meglepetes to start the penalty shoot-out;
0-0
Zoltan Marczell fired at the top left, goalkeeper
moves to his right and pushes the ball clear.
Advantage Csabagyongye.
1-0
Great penalty as Gergo Koczka shapes to put it
in the top right, goalkeeper moves and he curls
his foot around the ball to put it in the top
left corner.
1-1
Meglepetes are level as Kristof Lennart fires
the ball hard and true down the middle.
1-1
Save! Engin plays it down the middle and the Meglepetes
goalkeeper saves it with his knees diving to his
right. It's neck and neck again.
1-1
What a save! It stays level but it's advantage
Csabagyongye as Bence Szalontai fires it to the
right corner but the goalkeeper dives forward
and left to push it away.
2-1
David Kemeny slots it to the right as the goalkeeper
dives the other way and Csabagyongye have won
it!
It
was a contest worthy of a Cup Final but sadly
for Meglepetes we had to say farewell to them
thinking of what might have been.
