The Wooden Spoon Competition saw the four 5th placed teams come head-to-head in, what is also sometimes dubbed as, the battle for 1 th .

The first Semi-Final would be played between LAD Galaxy of England and A Magyar Pekseg of Sweden. Sadly for both teams they ended their groups without any points. On group form the English had faired better at finding the net whereas the Swedes had faired better at keeping their opponents at bay. It seemed the latter form would dominate the course of this game.

The game proved tight and fortunately for the LAD Galaxy defenders and goalkeeper was not as open as their previous games. A Magyar Pekseg took the early initiative in the battle for the teams' first win as Bjorn Lofgren put his team ahead.

It proved to be the only goal in the game and the Swedish side had claimed their first European victory. Unfortunately for LAD Galaxy it was game over for them – the team was a colourful one in terms of kit and manner so we hope they will return to ply their trade in Europe once more.

Who would meet A Magyar Pekseg in the final? The two teams in contention were Whiteley VII and Dyslexia Untied. Whiteley VII were in familiar territory after reaching the same stage in the 2010 Algarve Open. On that occasion, they emerged victorious to reach the Wooden Spoon Final. Their opponents Dyslexia Untied were here for the first time.

It was always going to be difficult to pick a winner in this game so we didn't even try. We decided just to sit back, watch and enjoy as the action unfolded. That action was good honest endeavor in the first half but no goals to show for the teams exploits.

In the second half the stalemate was broken as Jake Alford's 3rd goal of the day put Whiteley VII in pole position. As Dyslexia Untied chased the game Glenn Hillstrom capitalized with his second of the day and his team's second of the game for a 2-0 lead.

2-0 was enough to see Whiteley VII through to the final. Dyslexia Untied could now go and support Deportivo Lack of Talent in the Plate as their participation was now over.
