Game 6 of Group A saw two teams eager to break their points duck as Al Kaloida of Hungary met LAD Galaxy of England. The teams were rooted to the foot of the table and this was really a must win game to put them in pole position to make the Plate.

Usually such games are pretty tight affairs but this one proved to be one-side, certainly in scoreline. As the Budapest sun rained down maybe LAD Galaxy wilted as they found themselves 5-0 down by half-time. A further 4 goals in the second half completed a game to forget for the English. The Hungarians by contrast not only registered their first win but now had a healthy goal difference as they jumped into 3rd place.

Marci Markovits scored 4, Denes Zoltan 2, Matyus Mate 2 and Gabor Simon were the men to find the net.

Centrale Paris A of France took their 100% record to Pitch A when they met DHL Prague Blue. They had a three point lead in the table over their opponents and a win here would secure their Cup qualification. DHL Prague Blue only lost narrowly in their last game so although they knew they had a tough task they must have been confident to give their opponents a good game.

The French team were in fine form though and scoring freely. Jean-Marie Abgrall claimed their first in this game and Julien Alexandre's 4th of the tournament made it 2-0 at half-time. The second half followed a similar pattern to the first as Abgrall bagged his second of the game before Florian Azzopardi scored Centrale Paris A's fourth and his fifth of the day.

The victory secured Centrale Paris A's qualification to the Cup and gave them a 3 point lead at the top. DHL Prague Blue would need a result in their final game.

LAD Galaxy had the unenviable task of looking for their first points whilst playing Pici Gol who had a 100% record. The Hungarian side must have been odds on given previous results in this group. When Tamas Harmati opened the scoring for Pici Gol the result never looked in doubt.

Zoltan Szabo made it 2-0, Harmati again for 3-0 and Aros Simon for 4-0. It was still only half-time. In the second half LAD Galaxy fared a little better as Warren Murdock and James Davis both scored in Europe. Sadly for them they could not prevent the goals going in at the other end as Tamas Horvath and Paray scored for the Magyars to give us a final score of 6-2. Pici Gol joined Centrale Paris A on top with 9 points but remained in second on goal difference. LAD Galaxy knew they would be playing in the afternoon's Wooden Spoon.

Game 9 was a battle for 3rd place. Other results had meant that both teams were already assured of playing in the Plate. There was pride at stake though and not to mention the honour of finishing in third place and thereby securing a, theoretically, easier Quarter-Final tie. In the first half we saw three goals with Al Kaloida of Hungary edging ahead thanks to Marci Markovits and Gabor Simon. Dan Finlay scored for DHL Prague Blue and they were still in the hunt.

DHL Prague Blue's Meysam Sarabadani scored in the second half but sadly for the Czech team they shipped three at the other end as Markovits completed his second hat-trick in successive games and Peter Garaadi also got in on the act. The 5-2 win for Al Kaloida meant they finished 3rd with DHL Prague Blue in 4th . Markovits had 7 goals for the day so far and was in good shape for the top goalscorer prize.

The final game of Group A was a top of the table clash as France's Centrale Paris A met Pici Gol of Hungary. It promised to be a great game as both teams boasted a 100% record. With both teams already qualified for the Cup the main pressure was off but the Group A title was at stake.

We made Centrale Paris A favourites in this game due to their superior goal difference and the general ease of their victories to date whereas Pici Gol had seemingly had to work a little harder for their points. We were wrong though as Arpad Jakab and Aros Simon gave Pici Gol a 2-1 lead at the break. Florian Azzopardi's 6th goal of the day kept Centrale Paris A in the game but a goal-less second half meant it ultimately proved to be a consolation.

The result meant Pici Gol won Group A and Centrale Paris A finished second. This may seem academic but by finishing second it meant they would face the Group B winners….who would prove to be very ominous opposition. This defeat would probably have more serious consequences!
