Al
Kaloida and MacBengals had both reached the Plate
Semi-Finals courtesy of penalty shoot-outs. Al
Kaloida were on a bit of a roll finding themselves
unbeaten in three games, MacBengals were unbeaten
in two.
The
early signs were that it was going to be Al Kaloida
who extended their run as they raced into a two
goal advantage thanks to Denes Zoltai and Matyus
Mate. It would require a great show of strength
for MacBengals to recover the situation and one
they almost pulled off.
They
bounced back with two goals of their own in the
second half as Ali Phipps dragged them back into
it and Olly Gardner's fourth goal of the tournament
meant they had a chance to at least take the game
into another penalty shoot-out. Al Kaloida's Peter
Garadi had other ideas though and his goal ultimately
proved decisive as the Hungarian team won the
match 3-2.
It
was a spirited fightback by MacBengals but not
quite enough. Their tournament was over but they
have already declared an interest in plating in
the 2011 Valencia Fives and we very much look
forward to seeing them in action in sunny Spain.
