The
2011 Budapest Fives Plate Final was to be contested
by Al Kaloida of Hungary and Deportivo Lack of
Talent of England. On a tough day of competition
both teams had played 6 games to reach this stage
and they would need to muster the energy for one
last push to make sure it was lucky game 7 for
them.
Due
to a superior group record, a run of four games
unbeaten and possessing one of the tournament's
top marksmen, Marci Markovits we made Al Kaloida
favourites. Deportivo Lack of Talent were not
to be taken lightly though with two successive
wins and past records meant nothing as it was
all about what happened in the next 16 minutes
to decide who would be collecting the winners
medals and who would be collecting the runners-up
medals.
As
you would expect in a final a tight match ensued
as Al Kaloida and Deportivo Lack of Talent threw
everything they had into the game. At half-time
we were no closer to finding out the winners as
the teams were level at 1-1. Szilard Kardhordo
popped up at the perfect time to score his first
of the day for the local team whereas Joe Rees's
fourth goal of the day for the travelling team
meant it would all come down to the second half.
There
was to be a winning goal in the second half and
what a valuable goal it proved not just for the
team but for the individual. The goal came from
Marci Markovits who not only sealed the Plate
victory for Al Kaloida but with it he secured
the tournament Top Goalscorer award with his 8th
goal of the day.
Our
congratulations go to Al Kaloida on a fine performance.
They put two opening defeats behind them to go
unbeaten in five successive games to seal glory.
Our condolencies go to Deportivo Lack of Talent
who put in so much effort to fall short at the
last hurdle. Hopefully the runners-up medals were
some consolation. |
