The
20th game of Group A was the big one. It was
Mitre FC A versus Norfolk N Chance. With Sharks
victory in the previous game only one of these
teams would progress to the Cup and one would
have to settle for the Plate which would seem
extremely harsh given the performances of both
in Group A. Both teams were still unbeaten and
Mitre FC A had only conceded once. This was
effectively a Cup Quarter-Final in the sense
it was winner takes all. Norfolk N Chance had
a points advantage though so it meant they only
needed a draw to secure their place in the Cup.
Their title defence was on the line.
With
Norfolk N Chance only needing a draw you felt
that Mitre FC A needed to score first – they
didn't. It was first blood to Norfolk N Chance
thanks to a Kurtis Upton strike and they had
one foot in the Cup. When Joe Sames made it
2-0 they were almost safely through as their
opponents now needed to score 3. That task was
reduced to 2 goals when Samuele Pagano was on
target for Mitre FC A.
Any
hopes of a Mitre FC A comeback were quoshed
when Ash Baker made it 3-1 and that sealed the
Group A title and Cup qualification for Norfolk
N Chance – very well done to them. For Mitre
FC A it was very harsh, just 1 defeat and they
missed out on the Cup. You would think they
would be favourites to win the Plate based on
this group performance.
