The first final of the day was the Wooden Spoon Final as the two teams would battle it out for the coveted prize of literally a wooden spoon!

Often the Wooden Spoon Final's provide some of the most entertaining games of our tournaments and this one didn't disappoint. Often it's the carefree attitude of the teams and often the timing of the Final means there are plenty of spectator's cheering the teams on from the sideline creating a cracking atmosphere.

The two teams on show were Stag Park Rangers and 3 Lions FC. Stag Park Rangers were arguably the team to watch. Although they had lost their first 3 games (a couple of them narrowly) they had now win 2 in a row. They had scored 10 goals and conceded 13 so a -3 goal difference was not too bad for a team in the Wooden Spoon.

3 Lions FC historically may have been considered favourites for this having previously reached two Plate finals before – as recently as the 2017 Vilnius Tournament in September. Today though they had struggled a little bit with 4 defeats, 3 goals scored and 14 conceded. They'd also had a little bit of a wait since the group phase due to their Semi-Final bye. Would this be a welcome break for the lungs or allow the muscles to stiffen?

Stag Park Rangers had the momentum coming into this game but it was an even first half. The two teams were level 2-2 at the interval with Dave Cox boosting his goal tally by another two goals for Stag Park Rangers. Chris Baginsky and Roy Vissers were the men on target for 3 Lions FC.

In the second half Dave Cox completed his hat-trick (his second of the tournament) to put Stag Park Rangers 3-2 ahead. The goal that brought the biggest cheer though was his fourth of the game – it seemed everyone knew that was the winner and it was game over. It took Dave Cox to 9 for the tournament – a superb total for a player in the Wooden Spoon competition.

It had been a really tough day for 3 Lions FC – arguably the toughest of their 7 eurofootballfives.com events to date. Rumour has it they may be joining us in Mallorca or Barcelona later this year as October will mark 10 years since they made their debut at our tournaments (the 2008 Barcelona Fives).

Stag Park Rangers were our Wooden Spoon winners today – congratulations to them. I am sure they would celebrate in style later on in the bars and clubs of Riga! Well done to them and thank you for choosing our tournament to host your stag weekend. A trophy and some woodenware to take home on the plane is a fitting memento!
