The
2012 Krakow Trophy Plate Final was to be contested
by two teams who had grown into this tournament.
Today would see both Krakow Team and SV Zoo pick
up medals but who would take the winners medals
and the coveted Plate trophy?
With
six games down and one to go the teams would need
to summon up one last effort to collect those
winners medals. After the early exchanges you
would have put your house on Krakow Team as they
raced into a 3-0 lead. Pre-match Krakow Team had
met with a crisis being down to 3 fit players
so special dispensation (in agreement with SV
Zoo) was made for them to sign Clarke Woollam
from Atlantic Star and Maciej Golec from Cool
Tours.
It
was one of those loan signings who opened the
scoring and in some style with an overhead kick
that saw the watching galleries erupt. SV Zoo
must have regretted the decision to approve the
loan. Miro made it 2-0 and Krakow Team were riding
the crest of the wave. SV Zoo's sportsmanship
returned to haunt them when the other emergency
loan signing, Maciej Golec, made it 3-0. It was
3-0 at half-time and the local team looked like
Plate victory was nailed on.
SV
Zoo had come from behind more than once today
and defeated more than one Plate champion (Irish
Mbassy, 2011 Krakow Trophy and Atlantic Star,
2010 Manchester Fives) to reach this stage and
they mounted a comeback with Tobias Krenz making
it 3-1. Too little too late? Not at all as Krenz
again, captain Jan Neubert and Johannes Filler's
third of the day turned 3-0 down into 4-3 up.
The comeback was complete and Krakow Team had
nothing left in the tank to respond. Final score,
4-3.
Our
congratulation to SV Zoo and our commiserations
to Krakow Team. It was our pleasure to host you
both and we look forward to seeing you again next
time. |
