The Legends (Bul)

The Veterans Cup Final in Lloret de Mar brought together two outstanding teams — FC Mahou (Eng) and The Legends (Bul) — in what promised to be a fitting finale to a superb day of football. The English team were well decorated in our events with 4 titles to date. If they could add today's title they would join record holders CIS Committee of Belarus at the top of the all-time list with 5 tournament wins. The Legends were into their first Cup Final and had the chance of becoming the first Bulgarian winners of one of our titles since 2010 when Lozenetz City claimed the 2010 Manchester Fives.

This is how we lined-up:

FC Mahou (Eng)

Best appearance to date: Winners 2011 Prague Masters, 2013 Algarve Open, 2017 Mallorca Veterans, 2022 Lisbon Veterans

Record today: Played 7, Won 4, Drawn 1, Lost 2.

Goal difference today: 9-6 (+3)

Current unbeaten run: 1 game

Today's top goalscorer: Gamada Yousuf (4)

Clean sheets: 2

The Legends (Bul)

Best appearance to date:2025 Barcelona Veterans Cup SF

Record today: Played 5, Won 4, Drawn 0, Lost 1.

Goal difference today: 14-4 (+10)

Current unbeaten run: 3 games.

Today's top goalscorer: Aleksander Shabanov (6)

Clean sheets: 3

Based on today's statistics The Legends may well go into this game as favourites with just the one defeat and a hefty +10 goal difference. Goalkeeper Aleksander Karasamuilov and his defence had also kept 3 clean sheets in a row which made them a tough team to beat. However, they were up against formidable opposition and FC Mahou had 4x titles under their belts. They knew how to win and knew how to perform when it mattered most. It would be a tough call to pick a winner in this match.

The final began as a closely fought contest, with both sides showing the defensive organisation and discipline that had carried them to this stage. Neither could find a breakthrough in the first half, and the teams went into the interval locked at 0-0. As the second half wore on, FC Mahou continued to resist the Bulgarian challenge, but the deadlock was finally broken towards the latter stages when Mladen Mihalyov found the net with his fourth goal of the tournament. It was a decisive moment that seemed to break Mahou's resistance after a long day of competition, leaving the English side with little time to find a response.

The Legends took full advantage, with Iskren Iliev adding a second goal to seal a 2-0 victory and the Veterans Cup title. Another clean sheet capped a superb defensive performance, extending the Bulgarians' impressive record at the back and ensuring they finished the tournament in style.

For FC Mahou, there will inevitably be disappointment at falling just short of a fifth title. They battled hard throughout the final and came close to joining CIS Committee as the most successful team in eurofootballfives.com history. Their gracious acknowledgement after the match that The Legends probably deserved the win was a fine sporting gesture and a credit to the team. They can nevertheless look back on another strong tournament and a performance that took them all the way to the final.

Congratulations to The Legends on a memorable and historic triumph! Reaching their first Cup Final was already a significant achievement, but they went one better by overcoming a highly decorated opponent to claim the title. Their organisation, resilience and defensive record were central to their success, while Aleksander Shabanov deserves special recognition for finishing as tournament top goalscorer with six goals. The Legends can celebrate a richly deserved victory and a landmark moment for Bulgarian football in eurofootballfives, becoming the first Bulgarian team to lift one of our titles since Lozenetz City won the 2010 Manchester Fives. On this evidence, it could be the first title of many.
